Anya~ East (Russia)
I woke up. The digital alarm beside my bed was going off.
"Four A.M...", I muttered, "Why are they waking us up this early?"
I swung my legs over the edge of my bed and held onto the side table as I stood up. My head was dizzy and my back ached from the bed's stiffness. I opened a clear closet and searched through the clothes. They were all a deep green. Different pieces, but all the same color. I grabbed a long sleeved shirt and some tight jeans. At least they were in better condition than my old clothes, whether or not the color made me want to puke for some reason.
I put my hair in a top-knot, then slipped on my clothes, and then I went out to see what was happening. The metal of the door handle was cool against my warm skin as I pulled my door open. I walked out of the room and saw everyone else in the same green too. I immediately spotted Lauren, Mathen, Jace, some other girl, and walked up to them.
"Hey Anya!", yelled Lauren cheerfully.
"Ok...", I started, "What is up with our clothing? We look like a forest."
Jace laughed, "I think it's our side's color. Grey is the West's. I agree though, but have you met Sam yet?"
"Nope.", I admitted.
"Well, I'm Sam. Nice to meet you Anya." Sam was naturally pretty. She had dark skin, a lovely accent, and her hair was chin-length and curly.
"Want toast? I'm not eating mine. I got it from the cafeteria here." Mathen shoved over a paper plate with a piece of toast on it.
I poked the edge of the toast. "Did you poison it?"
"No. I did not." He smiled. "It's safe Anya."
"Alright then." I was starving.
It was awkward for a while, because nobody was talking. They were just watching me eat. Once I was done I threw the plate in the trash can and returned to the table.
"So,", I asked, "what are we doing today and when?"
Sam crossed her arms and leaned back in her seat. "Not sure about what, but it happens in two minutes."
Mathen laughed and looked at Sam inquisitively. "Sam. It isn't two minutes. It's one minute and nineteen seconds."
Sam pursed her lips. "Well, if that's the way you want to do this then that is fine with me, but you should know that by the time you finished your sentence that it wouldn't be one and nineteen. It'd be more like one and sixteen."
Mathen sighed. "I also took that time into account. So... I was right."
Lauren whispered into my ear, "He is a math genius. Don't get into some mathematical argument with him. You won't win. It hurts my pride to admit, but it's true."
I didn't think I would have a problem with that. I knew very little math. We didn't have anything to learn from. So I just used a dictionary that I found to learn my words. I admit though, that I had a little help from others too.
I heard Mathen murmuring. "...four, three, two, and one."
I heard a latch unlock, and the front door slid open. Steph strode inside. Her stormy eyes scanned us all and she was holding a gun towards us.
Steph looked quite groggy. "Good morning everyone. Stand up, then follow me. Do it quickly now.", she commanded.
Nobody questioned her. I had an assumption that she wasn't a morning person. It was a good thing that everyone woke up from their alarm, but I wouldn't have minded Keth, Abbeiy, Idene, or Richard not doing so.
