Ally was laying in the hospital bed with Nate resting against her chest, his small, almost non-existent snores filling the silence of the room and lulling her too sleep, but she was interrupted from getting much needed sleep when she heard the knock against the door, and a female rushing into the room as the nurse followed behind her with a warning on the tip of her tongue, watching with horror as the woman strode up to where Ally was laying and began to angrily yell at her for touching her child. The police man - who Ally had come to recognize as Ralph - quickly stopped the woman from getting to close, but her loud yell had awoken Nate, who let out a cry when he had seen Ms. Freed in his hospital room, causing him to cling onto Ally, his grip impossibly tight, his yells becoming louder as the intruding woman kept yelling.
"What do you think you're doing with my son?" Ms. Freed shrieked, looking at Ally as if she was the bad guy, but when Ally thought about it, it had been about a good 8 hours since the news of Nate being found supposedly reached the woman ears, so really, her actions spoke volume. "What have you done to him? What lies have you told him?"
"We haven't told him anything, in fact, we wanted to ask you a few questions at the precinct, so if you don't mind, why don't we let little Nate rest?" Ralph said, his voice just as deep as his partner, who had helped the doctor take photos of Nate's injuries.
"I do mind!" Ms. Freed barked, her glare now focused on Ralph, scoffing when she saw his uniform, her behavior only increasing Nate's screams.
"Please don't make me arrest you, I'm rather tired and you seem to be harassing this young woman and been accused of abusing a child." Ralph boomed, crossing his arms, his tall stature made him loom over the older woman, but it didn't seem to deter her much because she kept yelling on how this was police brutality and that they were keeping her away from her child.
"Excuse me, but that is my child, how can you let my child with this stranger." Ms. Freed asked, looking at Ally with the most hateful glare in the history of glares. Ally tightened her hold on Nate as he cried for her to go away and to leave him alone. Seeing the small human stress over what this woman was causing, Ralph put his foot down and twisted the woman's arms behind her back and escorted her out of the room.
"Yeah, yeah, lady, why don't you keep walking?" Ralph said, rolling his eyes as he tried to control his anger and not snap the woman's neck for bringing harm to, who he heard, had been more than one child, but innocent till proven guilty right? Well technically, Nate was proof, especially the large bruises that littered the poor boys torso, but again, he would really get in trouble for breaking this woman's neck and he really wanted to keep his job, he had his own daughter to feed.
"It's okay, Nate, this will be over soon," Ally said, standing up and picking up the rather light boy, but her exhaustion didn't help, so it took a little bit more of her strength to carry him, making him seem heavier. She swayed and rocked the boy, humming as she tried to calm the fragile boy, but he seemed to be determined to let them know how terrified he was, his loud screams only calming when she started to sing.
