Chapter 3 - Who Did It?

Amy Rose's POV

Sonic and I had silently walked alongside each other while roaming the streets of Mobius. A variety of people had walked past us, and the world seemed so quiet still. Maybe I felt like that, because there was nothing currently being said. I looked ahead at all times, looking at Sonic in the corner of my eyes here and there. He had continued to look down. As much as I wanted to ask him what was wrong, it'd be pointless considering I already know. Maybe I just felt like asking for reassurance because it always made me feel better. "I hear there's a new cafe opening up later today." I began saying. I finally caught his attention. "Oh, yeah?" "Yeah! I plan to go there after this entire thing to check it out. Wanna come with me?" I asked him with a soft smile, looking over at him. His orbs briefly blinked, his lips slowly turning into a smile once again. "Sure. But it's on you." He joked, finally raising his head with a smile and placing his hands behind his head. I was doing it. I was finally brightening up the mood again. "Fine fine. Only because you're the hero." I said, continuing to walk right beside him to the police station. But, even though things were "OK" for now, my mind always wandered back to the thought of him and Sally. It still made my stomach turn a bit just thinking about it. It made me sad. Although I wanted to ask him about it, I knew that right now was not the right moment to. For now, I faked a smile. I was happy, to make him happy.

Once we did arrive at the police station, we both had silently inhaled before opening that door. Even though we were calm, and knew we were victims of last night's incident, a part of us both was still shook. Sonic being even more shook. It was odd, because I had never seen Sonic be in this state before. It scares me. We walked in, checking in with the main office first. We eventually walked away from the main office and to the Sheriff's. I knocked on the door, hearing a "come in" on the other side. I reached for the doorknob, twisting it until I could open the door. When my eyes peeked in, I could see everyone else in there - Tails, Rouge, Sally, Shadow, Big, Cream, and Knuckles. We all knew Big was innocent though. He was just there, because everyone knows he's been around us. The blue hero of Mobius as well. We looked over to see the sheriff at his desk, looking back at us with a slight glare. "Take a seat, Miss Rose. Mr. Sonic." He instructed us, before slowly walking in and shutting the door behind us. We sat right beside each other just as commanded, giving everyone else a quick glance before bringing our attention back to the sheriff. "As you are all aware, a devastating incident had occurred last night at Mobius' Cookout while you all were there. We lost a good, innocent citizen - luckily no more than that. Although, he will not be forgotten." He had finished saying, before clearing his throat to continue talking.

I remained sitting in my seat, silent just as everyone else. "I'd hate to put the blame on Mobius' only heroes, but I will if I need to." He declared with a blunt tone. "The event happened around 7:25 PM, correct?" We all nodded. "Everyone that was there is a suspect. The majority of people have already been pulled into my office earlier this morning, and got no where. Let's hope we get somewhere with y'all." I was prepared to answer all any questions. I tried to expect the unexpected. I hoped Sonic was the same way as well, but when I took a quick glance at him, I could see his leg nervously shifting in a quick, up and down movement. Oh, Sonikku. "From what Mr. Shadow had already informed us last night, everyone was in the cookout seconds before it happened. Is that correct, Mr. Shadow?" He asked, all of us looking at Shadow's way. He nodded, briefly closing his eyes. "That's correct, sir." He answered. The sheriff then brought this attention back to all of us once again. "This won't take long, but was there any suspicion occurring at that time? Anything out of the blue seconds before the disaster happened?" I could tell we all sat there, and thought about it carefully. Was there any suspicion? I was too jealous of Sally and Sonic to even notice. The longer I thought about it, the longer I tried to think back about anything I noticed moments before that. I think I was slowly remembering. Wait, I remember-

I was startled by the sudden chair next to me scooting back. It happened so fast, it was loud. I looked over immediately to see Sonic standing up, bringing his attention to me afterwards. "Ames." I sat there, my eyes widened as I waited for him to say something. Anything. I just didn't know what it was. The longer I stared at him, the longer I was nervous about what he'd say. "You mumbled something at the cook out last night." He had finally said. "You asked where they were going. Moments before it even happened. Who was "they"?" He asked, keeping his eyes locked on me. I opened my mouth, hoping to say the right thing rather than the wrong thing. But nothing came out. I looked over at Rouge and Tails. Their faces expressed confusion and wondered just the same as Sonic. But the truth is... "It was Rouge and Tails, wasn't it?" He asked. "What?- No- Who said that?" I replied. Tails stood up. "What? Where is that coming from, Sonic? You really think your own BEST FRIEND would do that?" Tails defended. I could tell he was surprised; disappointed that Sonic had believed it was them. Rouge stood up afterwards, placing her hand on Tails' shoulder. "Tails' right. And we all know him, he wouldn't do such a thing to Mobius' people!" jumped in Rouge. All I could do was sit there and watch the three argue. I was too nervous to speak. I didn't even know what was wrong or right anymore. Shadow and Big remained sitting there in silence, Knuckles being in the same boat as I.

Eventually Knuckles stood up, looking at Sonic while pointing at both Tails and Rouge. "Neither of them would do that!" Knuckles said. "Come on, guys. Let's have common sense here-" "Common sense?" began Sonic. "OK. Let's use our common sense. What a coincidence it happens as soon as I see Rouge and Tails run back at the same time as I did after it had happened." "So you weren't there either! Trying to put the blame on us, and you weren't even there yourself!" yelled Rouge. "What!? I was there! I was in the building when it blew up! But where were you two?! No where to be fou-" I couldn't take it anymore. I stood up, and brutally slapped Sonic across the face. Everyone was surprised, their eyes widening. Shadow just remained sitting there, not surprised or phased at all. Give it to him though. "You all are acting so childish." I muttered. "You let one incident happen, and you all go crazy. You all lose your minds to the point you can't even trust anyone. 'Sonic and Friends.' It's supposed to be just that. THAT is how the people that see us as idols view us as well." I began explaining, turning my attention at everyone else now. "We don't have proof of who did anything. But please remember that we can trust everyone here." I reassured them. The sheriff had remained sitting there, allowing it all to happen. Same with Shadow. It seemed like they were trying to collect data from this entire argument rather than prevent it. I looked over at Sonic, to see how he was doing. But he just stood there, rubbing his cheek while looking down. "Sorry," he mumbled. I sighed, beginning to turn towards the door.

"I'll be going now. I hope y'all figure it out." I began saying one final time. "But I WILL find who did it." The thought of someone doing evil things to good, innocent people boiled my blood. And I was willing to do anything to get vengeance for those that were lost. "And when I do... I'll give them hell." I promised, before opening the door and walking out of it. I didn't look back to see their reactions. I didn't look back and wait for anyone to say they agree, or to go after me. I made a promise now, and I'm going to keep it. I will find who did this, and I'll get the payback everyone deserves. I walked out of the police station, stopping in my tracks to think for a few moments.
