After fighting three battles that I honestly had no right to even try to win and all I had done before during the entrance ceremony I was mentally and physically exhausted for the first day back to classes.
So much so that I tried to fall asleep the second I finished my first few classes before I was released for lunch.
Key word being tried.
I laid my head down after getting permission from Prof- No. Dr. Oobleck to rest my head in his classroom an hour before it started.
And being left alone of course gave me the chance to look at the quest that No. 1 gave me.

A journey begins with one step
Objective: Martial arts skill reaching Lvl 30, Aura strengthening reaching Lvl 10 (crystals may not be used to reach this threshold)
Rewards: 3000 exp, One random skill from No. 0000000001's list.
Failure: None
[Accept Yes/No?]
There were a few major differences. My martial arts skill and strengthening had to reach a certain level. But of course another skill from one of these people watching me...
That was just too tempting. I had to work on this. Of course... There was only one person who I knew who could help me through this.
But quickly my thoughts went back to a matter that had been boiling in my gut like a ball of hot lead.
The talk with Ruby. Honestly... She was cute. That much was easy to admit. But I didn't know a single thing about being in a relationship.
Just until recently I couldn't do anything but waste space. But now... I needed to think over it.
So I sat there got a solid minutes hand on my forehead before finally nodding. I had time before classes... So I needed to answer her.
So I grabbed my scroll and opened my texts.

After a quick couple of texts I knew Ruby was on the way to the empty room. But what I didn't expect was for her to get there so quickly.
This class was one that was only used every other day or so for a class I didn't even take so it wasn't that difficult to get in.
But now I was seeing Ruby actually panting and with how fast I knew she could move... This meant she might have been on the entire other side of the academy so that made me feel guilty. But now I needed to speak with her so I cleared my throat gave a small wave.
"Hey Ruby...?" I said with a nervous smile.
"Hi!" She said slightly exasperated with some heavy breathing.
"You... Ruby? Where were you?" I asked. Of course I knew Ruby was the fastest person I knew so if she was exhausted from running that only meant one thing.
"Huh...? Oh! Yang and I were going to go to town to try out this new bakery!" She said.
"... Ruby- I..." I said briefly pausing. God I felt even worse knowing she canceled plans for this talk. But there wasn't anything I could do to stop her now. So I let out a sigh and nodded to myself.
"... Ruby Rose." I said growing a bit more serious.
She seemed to notice this as she growed almost silent just looking at me. Her own face trying to be serious but I could tell the nervousness underneath it.
"Love..." I said as I began walking to one of the windows griping the edge looking down.
Honestly I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted to just jump. The two stories might be more worth the embarrassment I felt.
"... Love is something precious. It's something beautiful... Y'know?" I asked turning back looking over my shoulder.
"I think so...?" She asked tilting her head.
... Gods I can't talk about it like some sort of grand thing. I needed to talk about this like me. Not anyone else in the world.
"... I think love is something that you can feel a lot more commonly then people say. You can love food, friends, a book. But... What... You're talking about?" I said as I fully turned leaning on the window.
"It's something serious. Something that needs to be very very true. So I'm not going to say no to you. I just want to know we both feel the same-"
"Youfeelthesameway?!" She asked immediantly talking quickly.
I deadpanned at her for a moment before chuckling softly.
"Ruby... I'll hold off on deciding if it's going to be anything more. But for now... I can say I do love you. So... We can date. It won't be something grand like an engagement."
She seemed happy by this and actually jumped up nearly 6 feet into the air with a triumphant giggle. Which did raise a chuckle out of me before she said something.
"... And how long till... We decide if it's more?"
"... How about graduation? 4 years is a long time but we'll both be adults by then." I offered with a smile.
"I can live with that! I honestly thought you were going to be some kind of sage and ignore love..."
"... What made you think that?" I asked.
"You're serious about your training now at least. Especially if you're fighting to the point you collapse. So I thought you'd focus that."
"... I can't exactly argue there. But for now let's keep this a secret okay?' I asked.
"Of course. If Yang learned she'd probably break you." She said with an all too happy smile.
And immediantly I felt a ball of lead in my stomach as I stared down. Yang was already hard enough to fight... But if she was doing so for her sister? Wait... And her uncle and dad-
"Hey Ruby can I take this back-"
"Nope!" She said with a happy hum and ran to the door but not before looking back.
"We'll have a date this next weekend! Keep Saturday open!" She said before leaving.
As she left I just slowly slid my back down the wall staring at the floor.
[The king shrouded in gold scoffs at your fear.]
[The knight of Sapphire skies pities you.]
[The demonic judge of fire enjoys this development.]
[The snack witch cackles at you.]
"... You know any of you could actually say-"
[No. 0000000001 congratulates you.]
As dumb as it was I couldn't help but feel a bit moved. He was the only one who was nice to me after signing my life away to Yang the moment she learned about this.
But still... I needed to keep going. This time without missing a step I took a breath and stood up. I couldn't let that bring me down. That would be he dumb! So instead I needed to have a positive outlook.
Things were going to look up from here-!
