When I was a child being a Grisha was a death sentence to the point I grew up with an Alias instead of using my name. Everyone in my camp called me Anisa and my twin sister was called Siena. Well as you can tell all my family used an Alias for safety reasons. Being Grisha was a death sentence no matter how you looked at it so we had to do this.
I lived in that camp for years, so I was about nine when my grandmother called me over and she pulled me aside. "Anisa, we're going to be getting guests. I ran into an old friend and invited her and her son to the camp. When they arrive I want you to show her son around, he's a year older than you." Grandma said as I nod in understanding.
It seemed like time was standing still but my thoughts were everywhere. Someone new in the camp..will we be friends? Will he judge me like some of the others? I thought but when my grandparents had meetings I was present. At least I was for awhile and then half way through they sent me out. Something about a child shouldn't be in the meeting..my grandfather's words.
This went on for several days until one day they arrived he was walking while his mother was on the horse. Grandma went over and hugged her friend who hugged her back. "Time has done well for you, Lena." Grandma said to her and I didn't understand. She looked at the boy next to her "This is your son?" "Yes, this is Eryk." Lena said as she nod and then turned to me "Anisa, show Eryk around the camp will you?" Grandma asked
"Yes, Grandma." I said as I showed him around as we had everything from places to live in to a training area and the meeting home. Both of us were quiet unless we wanted to say anything. I could tell something had happened but then something was different. I couldn't figure out what but then I tried to figure out what to talk about.
After a few days we were constantly hanging out but still quiet when we went to the lake in the camp my siblings and I went to. We had been kind of close when I finally decided to trust him with the most important secret I had as were by the lake. "Eryk.." I said as he looked over at me while we sat by the lake and I looked at him. "Anisa..is not my real name. It's Amira.." I said as I looked at him seeing the reaction of surprise that I was in the same situation he was in. He realized I was like him "And well.." I made sure no one else around the camp besides maybe my siblings were nearby as I put my hands together and showed my dual nature to him of Sun and Tidemaker.
"You're like me..but different." Eryk said as I nod smiling and then I got in my pocket knowing it was not going to benefit me keeping onto it. "It's kind of silly, I know but here." I said handing it to him as I'd made him a friendship bracelet to him. I figured he'd refuse it knowing it was odd but he accepted it without hesitation as he put it on his wrist.
"Your secrets are safe with me." Eryk assured me as I smiled hearing him and I nod. "And any secrets you feel like sharing in the future are safe with me." I said as I was glad that this was going well. My sister and brother soon came along but that was fine. We all hanged out there for the rest of the day.
After a few more days Eryk was added to the night patrol as a way to train him to be a leader as his mother Lena said. Honestly, I thought she was asking too much but still we'd meet by the lake after his patrol and I'd let him be himself and relax. Let him have a little nap as the area was secure. This was how things went on for awhile before suddenly Grandma and his mother walked there and we both stood up.
"Anisa, come along. You're going back into the meetings and Eryk is joining too." Grandma said as I nod in agreement. We followed the two as they led the way knowing it wouldn't be easy now. Still sitting in the meetings I listened to grandfather talk about what should be done and that's when Eryk spoke up. "Why not make grow your own crops? Have someone secure the area." Eryk said as Grandfather was impressed.
I tuned out the rest of the conversation but I tried to pay close attention to his ideas. I could tell he would be a great leader someday..and I wanted to lead with him. That was the whole purpose of my training was to lead by example as grandma had told me before their arrival. Yet while it worked out nicely for some time going to these meetings..as usual something always makes it worse.
The camp got raided so we all had to split up and leave the camp for our own safety.
