(Y/n's POV)

"Tony!" I yell, approaching his workshop. I open the glass doors that protect all of his brilliant creations and step inside. From this viewpoint, I can't see exactly what he's doing, although he looks as if he's working on another of his big projects.

"Hiya, honeybuns," Tony greets, wiping his grease covered hands on a small blue towel.

I simply roll my eyes at his antics and explain my reason for being here. "I'm hungry."

Tony's eyebrows immediately shoot up and he gives me an 'are you serious?' kind of look. "You do realize that my tower comes with a fully stocked fridge, don't you?" he jokingly asks.

"You do realize that just because there's a fully stocked fridge, it doesn't automatically mean that that said fridge contains what I want to eat," I quip back. Tony facepalms, causing me to smile, and I continue, "Besides, I want to try that shawarma place that I've heard so much about."

At the mention of that specific restaurant, Tony takes his hand away from his face, which has the biggest grin on it. "I knew there was a reason I liked you."

"Gee, thanks," I smirk sarcastically. "So, shawarma?"

"You get the group, and I'll get the car."

"This is delicious," I comment around my mouthful of food.

"I told you it was good," Tony recounts, "but every time I brought it up in the past, you didn't want it."

"Well," I say, waving my sandwich around, "I'm eating it now." I look over to where Bruce is staring at Natasha and completely neglecting his plate of food. "Are you going to eat those?" I address him, pointing at his fries.

"Um, w... well," he stutters, momentarily glancing away from Natasha.

"Thanks, Bruce. You're the best," I tell him, shoving a handful of his fries into my mouth.

"Hey, what about me?" Clint asks, faking hurt.

"Well, you're great and all, but you eat all of your fries," I mention, motioning toward his very clean plate.

Clint looks down, a pout present on his face, and I'm about to attempt to cheer him up when an explosion sounds in the distance. "Let's go, team," Steve summons us. Everyone, including myself, happens to have their suits and weapons on them because the Avengers decided to be extra cautious after the attack on the city a few weeks ago.

When I reach the part of the city where the explosions are coming from, my eyes widen in shock. Chitauri, the dreadful creatures I've only heard stories about, are rampaging through New York. Everywhere I look, people are running for their lives and screaming in terror. I watch from afar as moms and dads quickly usher their children away from the area being attacked while trying to shield them from the debris that's being flung across the city.

What finally gets me to jump into action is the fact that a mom, who is frozen in dread, and her baby are about to be crushed by a collapsing building. I quickly summon an exponential about of power and focus it on the building, successfully holding the building in place. "Go!" I shout to the mom, who finally registers the gravity of the situation and escapes the danger.

"Y/n," Steve shouts across the street, "hold the Chitauri back for as long as you can while the rest of us clear the area of civilians." I quickly nod in agreement before sending large bursts of energy at many of the surrounding Chitauri. I can feel my powers waning, but I have to hold on. I might be these people's only chance.

Since I'm so focused on the Chitauri in front of me, I don't realize that a Chitauri is behind me, about to slice me open with their razor sharp weapon. A sudden clanging sound causes me to turn my head. I come face to face with Steve, who nods to me before heading off to help an older woman.

By this point, a good chunk of New York is destroyed, and I'm starting to think that if we don't stop these Chitauri within the next few minutes, New York might soon cease to exist. I start to summon my energy again, but this time, instead of sending out small amounts of it, I build my energy up inside of me. When I think I've gathered enough, which is almost all of it, I let it loose. The energy surges across the city, leaving even more destruction in its wake. When I open my eyes, though, all of the Chitauri are lying dead on the ground.

I mentally congratulate myself, but I'm brought back to reality when my body starts shrinking. Unlike last time, when I only shrunk a few inches, I continue to shrink until I'm only a couple of inches tall. I feel tears forming in my eyes from the disappoint washing over me, even though I knew there was a possibility this would happen. I usually have enough control over my powers to where I can keep myself from shrinking until after the battle, but I've used so much energy this time that it's impossible for me to keep that control.

Everything seems so much louder when I'm tiny. A simple chirp of a bird, which would normally be peaceful and quiet, now makes my heads feel as if it's going to explode. "Hey, where'd Y/n go?" I hear Tony ask somewhere in the distance.

"I don't know," Steve replies.

"I wouldn't worry about it," I hear Thor say. "She usually disappears after a mission. I'm sure she's already back at the tower."

"I guess you're right," Tony agrees. "So, shawarma?"

Everybody's voices fade into the background as I start heading in the direction I think the tower's in. The tears still reside in my eyes, except this time, I refuse to let them fall. As I walk along, wallowing in my bitterness and self pity, I miss the man with raven hair recoiling into the darkness.
