Chapter 12 - Gains and losses
I made the conscious deduction that Xil thought we humans were lower beings within the first few minutes of meeting him. By the end of the hour, I just wanted to strangle him. Still I sat there on the couch with my fingers clenching tighter and tighter together, while trying to keep my cool.
"I still don't understand how you knew Terri was here." I blurted out and Xil sent me one of those snobby, 'you aren't worth answering' looks.
"I figure the Hall of Records." Ty answered me with a shrug.
"Like that helps me out Ty." I crossed my arms as Xil's nasty stare crossed mine again.
"Let me explain it to the human...uh Jilly." Xil said condescendingly.
"That would be nice." My words came out through gritted teeth.
"When my Mamishxan didn't appear, I began the search for her. I, of course searched my tribe first only to find that everyone was paired off. That turned my search to the other tribes, which took a great deal of time. I still found nothing. Everyone in the tribes had their Mamishxan's, which as Zytar said, led me to the Hall of Records.
"The Hall of Records contains every single piece of information about our existence. One morning I came upon the information of a missing family. I read Terrilian's name and felt such emotion. I knew then that I had found my Mamishxan." Xil turned to Terri and shared an intimate look. I realised that he was telling this story more for her than anybody else.
"They allowed you the search?" Ty asked curiously.
"Not without a fight." Xil replied. "You had long been given up for dead, the whole family. I went to the highest realm that I could to require permission to search for you. I was eventually allowed to leave but I could only take a one man craft as they didn't expect me to find anyone."
"So we still need our ship." Ty let out a long sigh.
"Yes, I cannot even take Terrilian with me. So where is your ship?" I knew as soon as his words turned spiteful that he was talking to me.
"I haven't worked that out yet." I told him and he huffed in a superior way.
"We know exactly where it is." Ty smoothed over my words.
"Do we?" I raised a brow to him.
"The calculations are in your book." Ty sent me an encouraging smile.
"I know that. I'm not letting him," I pointed a thumb harshly towards Xil. "Into my house."
"That's fine. We can go and check it out ourselves. I'm sure the newly met Mamishxan's will be able to occupy themselves." Ty's dry words made me let out a little snort that earned a disapproving look from Xil.
There was no other protest from stupid Xil, so we went back to my place. I was able to let go of the tension the very moment that I was no longer under Xil's criticising gaze. I had no idea why the idiot was being so damn nasty to me but I sure was over his constant glares.
"Are you okay Jillybean?" Ty asked as I opened the front door.
"Yeah. What is that guy's problem?" I frowned and gestured back to his house.
"Xil is a Xanden, that is enough said. The Xanden were the first tribe of the Xyllenion people so they have a rather superior attitude of their existence. You are messing with his known beliefs, which is only making his attitude worse. It is actually rather an amusing situation."
