PART ONE

The dripping faucet of the water dispenser at the end of the hallway and his own foot tapping against the floor. Doors opening and closing every now and then, strangers passing through the otherwise empty corridor. The young man tugged at the hair tie wrapped around his wrist, eyes unblinking as he stared at his shoes.

Why am I so nervous?

Sure, sitting on a lonely chair in front of the HR director's office was not exactly an experience he would describe as 'relaxing'. With a few exceptions, of which he was one, people got bad news here. People got fired.

His friend did. Little over a week ago. For years, he had been a strong pillar of the company's legal team, but one misstep, one slip of judgement, and he was given the boot. Because of that, the young - and very much panicked - man was due to get assigned to a new client.

Working as a personal driver for one of the biggest law firms in Seoul sure required having a certain personality type - polite, sociable, friendly. Jungkook had thought he had all that, but as he sat on that God forsaken chair, waiting to be called inside the office, he just wished Yoongi were still there and nothing had to change.

Attorney Min had been his first client at the company, a man only a few years older than himself, and with a heart of gold. He took Jungkook under his wing as soon as the younger was assigned to him and taught the boy how to juggle with attorneys and tough clients so his life at the company would be a breeze.

Most importantly, he became his friend.
With his responsible, cerebral and cautious nature, the attorney would sure strike as Jungkook's polar opposite at a first glance. And not once did he get frustrated with the younger's attitude, so infuriatingly carefree and cheerful, yet untouched by the weight pressing on the attorney's shoulders.

But he and Yoongi got close in no time. The younger found great companionship in his friend's calm, silently caring nature, while Yoongi finally remembered how to enjoy his once beloved work, how to laugh from the depths of his heart and how to stop worrying so constantly about the future and enjoy what he had right now.

Jungkook hated that he had to leave. He didn't know anything about his new client, and if he ate up all of his time, he would rarely get to see Yoongi anymore, if at all.

He sighed, leaning his head back against the wall.

I should just get this over with already.

Not a minute after, to make him curse that thought, a woman appeared from inside the HR's office, a welcoming smile stretching her lips when she spotted the young man.

"Jeon Jungkook?" She asked, causing him to instantly stop fidgeting.

"Yes, Ma'am." He stood up and bowed, subtly rubbing his clammy palms against his suit pants. Then came the dreaded words :

"You can come in."

--

With no indication of how long he had spent inside the office, Jungkook opened the door and stepped out into the hallway, exhaling deeply. His eyes once again found the lonely chair and he smiled, too relieved and tired to hate it any longer. It was finally over.

He found the meeting with the woman rather useless and a general waste of their time, given the first half hour spent confirming general data she needed before she could even tell him anything about his new client.

"Your full name again, please?"

"Jeon Jungkook."

"Date of birth?"
