After the meeting with Mr. Bang came to an end, Taehyung checked the time and realized he was going to be late at the notary's office. Having placed the meeting so early in the morning, the attorney had been sure he would finish by nine, and make it to the signing of another client's contract at ten. However, the meeting stretched for way too long due to an unexpected set-back, and now the attorney barely had time to breathe before he had to be on his way again.
Rubbing his forehead, he called Jungkook to inform him of the change of plans, but, as if to make things even harder, the younger was unreachable, leaving long, drawn out beeps ring into Taehyung's ear before he gave up and hung up the phone. He went downstairs, ready to look for the driver in person, crossed that he had to waste time he didn't have in the first place.
He exited the building with quick steps and soon spotted Jungkook's car, but when he neared it, he found the car empty, and his driver, nowhere in sight. Groaning, he went back inside to the reception desk, asking the receptionist if she knew anything of Jeon Jungkook's whereabouts. The girl widened her eyes at the attorney's assertive tone, and meekly informed him that the driver should be in the park near the office.
Taehyung nodded and thanked her, storming into the park. He had kindly assumed that the driver had had an emergency, felt unwell or had another reasonable explanation for his absence, yet here he was, merrily strolling around the park with no care in the world, meanwhile Taehyung was pressed to get the contract signed as soon as possible, landing the firm a pretty commission.
As he walked into the park, his mind revved back to the discussion with Mr. Bang, which had taken an entirely different course from the one he had imagined.
After proudly presenting him the faultless strategy he had come up with, expecting to wrap things up quickly with his client, Mr. Bang just stared at him with a confused expression. He tilted his head, wanting to know why the last documents he had sent had not been taken into consideration when creating the pleading.
At that, it was Taehyung's turn to be perplexed, and he calmly asked the man to what documents he may be referring to, certain there had been a misunderstanding somewhere. Still, the man remained firm, explaining that after the first batch of documents, he had sent three more, as per his accountant's advice.
Taehyung froze, searching through his memory, but he could not find the second email from his client anywhere. Still, before he could make a fool out of himself and insist that he had received nothing more, he checked his email once again, hesitantly opening his Spam file. Then he closed his eyes, mentally cursing himself.
At the very top of the list proudly stood an email from Mr. Bang, with three attachments. The attorney pursed his lips and closed his computer, apologizing to the man multiple times and vowing that the game-plan would be fully redesigned until the trial, including the new documents as well. And now, with the trial in no less than a week and with plenty of preparations left to tend to, here he was, walking around the park, looking for his driver.
He scoffed bitterly at how ridiculous the situation was.
He rushed his step when he spotted the younger crouched by the side of the pond, ready to give him a piece of his mind, but then halted altogether when he noticed another person approaching his driver from the opposite direction.
His eyes bulged out when he saw attorney Lee in the flesh call out Jungkook's name, bringing his attention to her. The younger's ever-present smile fell at the sight, and he quickly stood up, taking a small step back.
The two exchanged a few words Taehyung was dying to hear, then he saw Lee handing Jungkook a package with a sickeningly fake smile. She placed a manicured hand on Jungkook's shoulder, making Taehyung's stomach churn as a disgusted grimace formed on his face. There was something profoundly wrong about that image that Taehyung had a hard time deciphering. He just knew that whoever was close to Lee had to be either stupid or as vile as her, and he couldn't accept that Jungkook was either of the two.
