The next few days were a challenge for Taehyung. Working almost uninterruptedly and sleeping five hours a night at best helped him finish his pleading at last, giving him some sense of security. But in order to get that done, he had to place all other projects to the side, and helping his team on their cases was out of the question.

He didn't even want to check his phone and see Attorney Lim's infinite string of messages and missed calls. He had even come to his office the other day, but Taehyung had chosen to ignore him, like he did most of the time. He simply didn't have the time to even talk, not to mention take some work off Lim's shoulders when Taehyung himself was buried to his neck in it.

But he was starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Although the trial was the next day, he at least had the pleading neatly written on paper, with all the main points highlighted and underlined. It looked good, and most importantly, it had all the right arguments. Taehyung was proud. Tired out of his mind and just a little nauseous, but proud.

He placed the sketch of the pleading into his day planner, then packed everything into his brief case, turning off the light and finally stepping out of the office. He let out a heavy sigh and slowly walked to the elevators, his legs feeling like jelly and his head, heavier than ever. When he met Jungkook outside, he waved weakly, not even meeting his eyes.

Jungkook took the hint and kept quiet, opening the door for him and kindly holding his things while he got inside. Then he drove to his apartment as quickly as he could, hoping to get him at least one more hour of sleep.

They parted with few words, agreeing to meet early the next morning, to get to the court house in time. Then Taehyung dragged himself into the elevator and waited to reach his floor, yawning loudly. When the elevator stopped after what seemed like forever, he opened his eyes - when had he closed them? - and stepped out, fishing his keys out of his pocket and opening the door of his apartment.

Inside, he flicked on the lights, kicked off his shoes, placed his coat in the hanger and dumped his brief case in a corner of the hallway, lacking the energy to walk all the way to the kitchen to place it where it normally sat. He got undressed in a haze, his hands finding his pyjamas automatically and putting them on while Taehyung's mind was still at the highlighted sentences on those papers, trying to see if he remembered everything.

Since some parts were still blurry, he decided to get up earlier the next morning and revise everything a few more times, just to be sure.

With his mind partly at ease, he set his alarm at 4:30, thrilled to have a spoiling amount of five and a half hours of sleep ahead. He placed his phone on the floor next to his head, then closed his eyes, a dreamless sleep engulfing him.

--

When his alarm awoke him the next morning, he thought it had to be a mistake. There was no way he had to get up already - he felt like he hadn't slept at all!

Peeking through his eyelashes, he looked out of the window next to his bed, and he only confirmed his suspicions - outside, it was still dark, and he felt more than allowed to go back to sleep. But he looked at his phone, just to check.

Bad decision.

It was 4:30. Time to rise and shine.

Taehyung's body spasmed involuntarily into an attempt to cry, imploring him that he allow himself more rest.

He gripped the sheets tightly into his fist, rubbing his eyes in a rush. He was well aware of what his body needed, but unfortunately for him, rest was not an option.
