Wednesday's POV:
It's been a whole week and there's been no other word from the stalker. Whoever it was gave me a dagger and disappeared.
Classes have started and they continue to be boring as usual. I'm surprised a lot of this material is stuff they actually have to teach and people just don't already know it. Although it's been a lot more bearable to get through them with Xavier in the majority of my classes.
Today's the first official day of Archery tryouts, not just warmups, so I made my way over as the unofficial, soon to be official, Co-Captain to help Xavier set up. And yet now that I'm here, everyone's already started. Did I get the timing wrong? "Thing, grab my schedule".
Grabbing the paper that was now sticking out of my bag, I looked at the time for Archery today. And ofcourse, the actual tryouts had to start 30 minutes before the practice days. How stupid is that. I wont make this mistake again that's for sure. Doesn't bode well for a Co-Captain.
I guess I'll just be helping Xavier with cleanup. For the meantime, I decided to pick up a set of bow and arrows that wasn't in use while he dealt with the potential new members.
Taking a breath, I drew back my arm, and released the arrow. The arrow cut through the air so clean you could almost hear it, and the sound of it stopping right dead center on the target was just as satisfying.
Looking over my shoulder, I could see Xavier who was by no surprise occupied with a bunch of students. Conducting tryouts seemed like something for a Captain. I for one don't feel the need to talk to that many people. Besides, my position isn't official yet.
Focusing back on the target in front of me, I lined up another shot.
Xavier's POV:
I could hear her shot as it hit in the dead center of the target. If it wasn't for all these people I'd go over to talk with her, but I doubt she'll come over here with all these students.
When I had a chance to, I looked over to see her lining up a new shot. Her hand coming up to her face, the deep breath taken as her arm pulls back. Her bow, clearly an extension of herself. Another perfect shot hitting once again right in the center of the target.
There's something about the way she's able to just be so connected with her shots that remind me of when I'm drawing. An extension of myself. She was mesmerising to watch. You couldn't help but admire.
More than anything I wish I could cut these tryouts short and go over to shoot with her. Every time I looked back at her I could see she was trying something new. I saw her shooting with one eye closed, switching hands, behind the head; and seeing that she didn't make a bullseye for every one of them was a reminder that she's definitively a person, but she did get all of them pretty close to the center.
Looking back to the next person I'd be trying out, my delayed brain realized that someone else was over by Wednesday. Taking another glance back there, I could see Silas. He was sitting off to the side, his eyes locked in, focusing on one thing in particular. Following his eyeline, that sinking feeling in my chest was right, seeing that the thing he was focused on was Wednesday.
Rolling my eyes, I couldn't help but curse myself. I hate how the stupidest things make me feel like this, but I can't help it. After the whole Tyler mess, seeing her with another guy, especially one as persistent as my roommate, just really gets under my skin.
Wednesday being on the archery team was supposed to let me spend more time with her. But until after these annoying seemingly never ending tryouts, the only time I spend with her is during set up and take down. And she missed one of those today already.
