My phone dinged. Lazily, I reached out for it. I had just come back home from our last schedule, marking the end of our latest album promotions. And may I say, quite successful promotions. Ever since Hui and I got official as an idol couple, Universe and Amethyst – as our fandom was called – joined forces and supported both groups in their comebacks: Pentagon and Violet. Back to my phone. I was not really surprised to see that it had been my lovely boyfriend who texted me. But what did surprise me was what he wrote. All that was to be seen were four pictures and a short message: "Meet you there at 8pm." I scratched my head and took a closer look at the pictures.
The first one was a picture from the view of their dorm's rooftop. I instantly remembered the first time I had been up there. I was invited to Kino's birthday party. Only two years younger than me, I had kind of unofficially adopted him as my younger brother, back when I still was a trainee at CUBE. We went well together since both of us loved flowers and wanted to become florists at first. And we helped each other out a lot. While I had shown him some tips and tricks in music producing, his teaching improved my dancing a lot. If it wouldn't have been for my kindergarten friend getting accepted into SM, I would have stayed at CUBE. But I had promised her to debut together if possible. However, back that evening, I was happy to see some of my old trainee friends again. I already knew all of Pentagon's members a bit from various occasions as well as my trainee days. But it was so long ago and we had so much to catch up upon. The later it got, the colder the night grew and one after the other decided to leave the rooftop, leaving only Hui and me outside in the end. We shared his jacket. I don't know if it was because I always had had a crush on him or because I was slightly tipsy, but when he looked in my eyes with a loving look and told me that no star out in the night sky could ever resemble that beautiful sparkle in my eyes, I didn't hesitate for once in my life and kissed him.
The second picture was the picture both our groups took together after one of the TV shows we had been on together. And I remembered that one way too well. It had been the day after our first date. We had tried to cook together. Well, yes, tried. His lips had been way too distracting, resulting in an improvised potato soup being the only edible dish we had in the end. None of us minded; it had been worth it. And it still was delicious. However, the next day when Hui got asked what his favourite dish was, he answered without hesitation: "Potato soup." Then he watched amused how I choked on my drink, trying to excuse myself with stating that I just had been surprised by the simplicity. "I'm simple to take care of", he had shrugged grinning and I really had to hold back not scolding him that I constantly had to remind him that he had to sleep, eat and rest. And later that day, I had to do exactly that again: Hui was in his studio until late at night and I had threatened to come over and drag him into his bed by myself if he wouldn't leave by himself now. He had teased me about how he actually liked the thought but twenty minutes later, he had sent me a photo from the dorm's rooftop to prove me that he was home.
The third picture showed his studio. Or to be more exact, his screen. On it, I saw the familiar old background – the rooftop – as well as a certain song playing. I grinned. That had been another one of our little disputes about the importance of sleep. Once again, Hui had been barely sleeping to finish producing the songs for their next album and by now I knew that I couldn't always force him to get his sleep. The life of an idol was hectic during album preparations and promotions and sometimes you had to stay up all night even when you didn't want to. So, this time I stopped by with a bag full of supplies, some coffee and food. Since our group was on break around the time, I stayed with him, switching from the couch to the chair next to him as he asked me about my opinion about the song. Somehow, we ended up producing the last song together and working well together due to knowing each other's preferences, we managed to finish early – for Hui's standards at least. I wanted him to go home and sleep, mostly because I wanted to do the same, but he had just smirked at me, stating that he slept so bad because he was lacking my company and that his couch was also very comfortable. I reminded him that I wanted to go visit my parents the next day and therefore still had a lot to pack. In the end, we lay on the couch cuddling while listening to the new album he had worked on. It had been my condition, mostly because I was curious but also because it gave me the chance of setting a time limit – after the album was over, I planned to leave. Not that I didn't want to stay with Hui, not at all, but because I was honestly concerned about him not sleeping at all for another night. Well, we didn't listen to the album only once but in the end I managed to get home, pack everything and catch at least around 2 hours of sleep, meaning Hui might have had around 4 hours.
The fourth and last picture was one after we already got official. We had been dating secretly for everyone around us for half a year until there was no chance to hide it anymore. Two more years later, we announced it to the public. That had been about another half a year ago. And right afterwards, we had a lot of TV shows to attend together. They mostly were the same: Hui not stopping to compliment me, me getting all shy over it and him cooing my cuteness. What was shown in the picture though was not another TV show but the first of their concerts I could attend openly. We had agreed that the concerts' focus always should stay on the interaction between idols and fans, not between him and me. It wouldn't seem right. As I met him in the backstage area afterwards, he was exhausted but happier than ever. I smiled softly as I wiped his sweat. I knew how much the fans gave back to an idol. It was a kind of happiness you couldn't get anywhere else and I wasn't stupid enough to think I could have the same effect on him in any way. Therefore, I wasn't jealous either. "How was it?", he asked with sparkling eyes. I chuckled. "I don't know if you or I enjoyed it more", I replied. "Come with me", he smirked and took my hand to gently drag me away. Curiously I followed him back on stage. Except for the staff, everyone had already left. He sat down at the edge of the stage and motioned me to do the same. I leaned against him and just enjoyed his presence. He started humming "Beautiful", knowing very well how much I loved the song. "You should have seen it", he suddenly spoke up. I looked up at him, not sure what he meant. "All the lights in here. Universe. They are so adorable. They really are my universe, no offense meant. You still are my sun then." I chuckled: "No offense taken. After all, Amethysts are our most precious jewels as well. You might be...", I stopped talking to think, "You're my diamond then or something like that." He laughed softly and kissed the crown of my head before the staff shooed us off the stage to tidy up fully. I had accompanied them home and spent another night up as I sat on the rooftop with Hui, talking about this and that.
By now, it was obvious where he wanted me to come to. I looked at my watch. One and half an hour left. I jumped up and started searching for a proper outfit.
Kino opened the door for me, grinning widely. But as much as I asked, he kept quiet about Hui's surprise. Pouting, I had left him behind at their apartment and made my way up to the rooftop on my own. I was taken by surprise as I saw numerous roses and candles on the floor, but no Hui to be seen. I stepped outside, approaching the chairs we usually sat on. Feeling a bit awkward, I decided to sit down as I found a little note on one of them. "Turn around", I read mumbling and immediately I did so. I gasped. Hui must have hidden himself to come out after me. And now he kneeled a few steps away from me and looked the most nervous I've ever seen him. A small box with a ring in it lay in his outstretched hand. "Y/N", he began with shaky voice and cleared his throat before going on, "My one and only true love, my sun and most precious treasure– This is where it all began. This rooftop is connected to most of our memories. We're a couple for three years now and I can't imagine life without you anymore. And I also don't want to. We already made our dating official, but let's make our relationship official. Y/N... Will... Will you marry me?" I couldn't believe it. That was definitely not what I had expected. But I knew – There was only one possible answer. "YES!", I exclaimed and almost ran him over as I hugged him tightly. I felt how fast his heart beat. "You must have been really nervous", I teased him grinning. "I was", he confessed. "As if I would ever say no", I gave back. He laughed. "Glad you didn't", he answered and kissed me.
