A few days after Christmas, Steve and Sofia said their goodbyes to Sarah and headed home. Neither had spoken to the other about what happened Christmas morning. Steve wanted to wait until they got back to Cedar Springs in case it didn't turn out as planned. Sofia chose to ignore it completely to prevent herself from having her heart broken if all Steve ended up wanting was a no strings attached fling.
"Do you wanna grab dinner after I pick Johnny up?" Steve asked as they pulled into his driveway.
"I would normally say yes, but I have laundry to catch up on before work on Monday."
"Do it tomorrow."
"Nope, Sunday is my lazy day. I'll be laying in bed watching movies, surrounded by snacks."
Sofia grabbed her bag and hopped out of his truck. She rounded the front and was met with Steve blocking her path to her house.
"Think I could get in on that?" He smirked.
That damn smirk was going to be the death of her. It was hard enough sharing a bed with him each night after she all but begged him to fuck her. It was easier then because his mom was in the same house, but this time they'd be alone, in her bed with nothing to hold them back. But Steve hadn't brought it up, so if he was willing to sweep it under the rug, she was too.
"Uh, I guess. I probably won't see you much anyway this coming week. It's just me and Sam in the office, so I'll probably be working late."
"What about New Year's Eve? Thor is having a party and I was thinking about going. Wanna go with me?"
"Sure. James and Nat are out of town and Sam will probably be with Wanda and Pietro, so why not."
"Great. I'll come over tomorrow around mid-morning and then I'll pick you up Tuesday night at eight."
Sofia nodded at him and scooted past him, but he grabbed her arm. His deep blue eyes pierced through her as he spoke.
"Thank you for spending Christmas with me. You don't know how much it meant to me."
"Thanks for asking me." She said softly.
"There was no one else I'd want to ask, Sofia." His eyes flitted over her face and his hand caressed her arm.
Her heart thundered in her chest, but she reminded herself that he didn't mean it the way it sounded. The only reason he asked is because he thought she wouldn't get attached and there she was falling for him. Sofia stepped backwards towards her house, gently pulling her arm away.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Steve." She said quietly.

Thankfully, Sunday passed with no issues. Sofia didn't think it'd be a good idea to actually spend her lazy day in bed since Steve was coming over, so she set up snacks in the living room instead. He stayed into the evening and finally left later in the night. Again, neither mentioned their close encounter at his mom's house. It felt like when they first met; when they were getting to know each other and starting to build their friendship.
Monday went by in a blur. Sofia was busy from the moment she walked into the office. Since James had taken Sam's advice and taken an extra week for just him and Mat, she was slammed with extra work. She worked late into the night on Monday and returned early Tuesday to get a head start.
Sam had made the decision to close the office at one since it was New Year's Eve. Sofia caught a quick nap when she got home, ate dinner, and then got ready in time for Steve to pick her up. By the time she was slipping on her shoes, Steve was already knocking on her door.
