The days had bled together for Sofia as she continued to settle into her new life and before she knew it, it was already the middle of December. She worked nine to five, Monday through Friday and spent her evenings either on her sofa watching Christmas movies or hanging out with Nat or Steve. She hadn't bothered buying a Christmas tree or decorating, but two weeks before Christmas she decided that she wanted her house to feel more festive.
She went out and bought all the things she would need to decorate a tree and a few things to place around her house. All she was lacking was the actual tree. But she needed help getting one. She bundled up and crossed her yard to Steve's house. It was Saturday and he was usually still at work, but she had seen him pulling into his driveway as she was leaving earlier. She knocked and waited for him to answer, hoping he wasn't busy. When the door opened, the first thing she saw was Johnny's head poke around the door.
"Hey, buddy." Sofia grinned and reached down to scratch behind his ear as he gave her a lazy smile.
"Need something, Sof?" Steve now stood in the doorway behind Johnny.
Sofia looked up at Steve and the smile slipped from her face. He was shirtless with his sweats riding low on his hips. She knew from the tattoos on his hands and neck that he was probably hiding a whole lot more underneath his clothes, but the visual was so much better than her imagination. Steve's upper body was covered in ink. The dark lines ran along his impressively carved muscles and Sofia couldn't stop herself from thinking about tracing every single line with her tongue.
"You wanna come in when you're done eye fucking me, sweetheart?" He chuckled.
Sofia blushed a deep scarlet. There was no way to talk herself out of this. She had been caught and the only thing she could do was admit to it. It wasn't like they were trying to start a relationship. There was no harm in looking. She walked past him and straight to his couch where they had spent several nights binging horror movies and propped her feet up on the coffee table. Steve fell down on the couch next to her, stretching his arm out behind her, and smirked
"What can I say, Stevie? You have a nice body. A girl can look." She said.
"Does that girl want to touch?" He asked, voice husky and low.
"Nope." Sofia said, flicking her eyes down the front of his body.
Yes, please.
"Your mouth is saying no, but I feel like you're lying." He narrowed his eyes at her. "Of course, if you're too chicken..."
"If you want me to touch you, Rogers, all you have to do is ask nicely." Sofia responded sweetly.
"I think we both know I wouldn't mind, Sof. It's you that has the problem with it."
Steve scooted closer to her and let his fingers graze against her shoulder. Sofia looked down at his chest and then back at him. His eyes had darkened and his pupils widened as his gaze fell to her lips.
"You know, for a man who doesn't want to screw his neighbor, you sure do flirt with me a lot."
"A little harmless flirting never killed anyone. Go on. Touch me."
Steve's voice was a raspy whisper by the time he was done speaking. It sounded like more than just light teasing at this point and Sofia could feel her hand lifting as if it had a mind of its own. Her fingertips had barely grazed over the contours of his hard abs when she heard the slight catch of his breath. She shouldn't be going down this road. It was going to lead to trouble and she didn't exactly care to find out what type of awkward hell she would be in if this went any further. Her original plan was to ask Steve for help finding a Christmas tree. It didn't include groping him on his couch.
