Kaira waited anxiously for Aurora to return. That girl was taking so much time to get back. She considered flying over to find her, and carrying her back to the den, but considered the other option of flying into fire, and visiting Aurora's mother.
She sunk into the fire and a few moments later arrived at Aurora's birth home. Lavender was not at home, but she found maps of the city, and of the Golden Hexagon on the dinner table. There were unwashed dishes in the sink, so Kaira knew that Lavender was extremely preoccupied at the moment.
Lavender burst into the house, and threw a dagger at Kaira without even looking at her. Kaira smoothly glided over it, and flew over to Lavender.
"Lavender," Kaira said.
She and Lavender were quite close since she was a child, and she often talked to Lavender when Aurora was younger.
"You can't believe how relieved I am to hear your voice" she said breathlessly.
"Dagger?" Kaira said, motioning her head towards the dagger.
"I've become paranoid," she replied, pulling it out of the wall.
"Clearly" Kaira said, taking in Lavender's appearance.
Her brown hair was held in a ponytail, and her hands were crusted with mud. Her green eyes were extremely dark, the way it was whenever she was tense.
"I was beginning to wonder whether you had been possessed, you know, leaving dirty dishes and all in the sink" Kaira said, jokingly, trying to make Lavender smile."Been busy. I've sent people in droves inside the library, and sealed them in. It provides enough defense for them against the soldiers. Despite the attack beginning weeks ago, I'm getting news from plants from all over the Golden Hexagon only now. Mother Earth has helped a bit, but my plants are tiring too, and are in pain as well. And over here, I need to rally those cowardly men. All talk you know, completely useless they are" she said.
"Obviously" Kaira said, laughing.
Kaira seldom laughed, and when she did, she knew the person on the receiving end was immediately comforted.
Lavender at last smiled, and opened her arms. Kaira flew into it, and Lavender held on to her tightly.
"How is she?" she asked.
Kaira felt a tear fall behind her neck.
"Much better than you would've expected. I never thought I would ever say this to a human, but she actually cooks well!" she said, still trying to make Lavender happy.
Lavender finally let her go.
"Obviously. She IS, afterall, my daughter" she said with a touch of pride.
"Yes yes, enough with that. How come I never knew she knew to shoot?" Kaira asked.
"I have my secrets," Lavender said, a twinkle in her eyes.
"Does she like the book?" Lavender asked.
"Oh she is addicted. She loves it" Kaira replied.
The more she sat near Lavender, the more things she noticed about her. Her brown hair had begun to whiten in the sides, and her eyes had dark circles under them.
"I need to tell you something" Kaira said, hesitant to give Lavender bad news.
"Yes?" she asked.
"Aurora got her first flash. She saw the future" Kaira said.
Lavender's surprise had no bounds. Her eyes expanded, and changed shades as her emotions shifted.
