"Wait. this is where you live?" Aurora asked Kaira incredulously.
"That's what I said! Go get your hearing checked!" Kaira replied.
"It's so....homey" she said.
"I still don't know what is so surprising," Kaira said.
Aurora looked around. The clearing was like a paradise. It was a circular room as large as her house, with a huge hearth in the middle. The flames were a flickering orange, and near it was a stand where Kaira could perch. The ground was grassy, and there were trees all around bordering it. It was as though the trees had molded together to form an impenetrable wall.
On the right hand side, there was a dummy and target practice equipment. The trees seemed to push outwards where it molded into three long coat holders which seemed to move with the gentle breeze. On a kind of rack molded out of the wood, a bow and a few quivers of arrows hung, and in another holder, there were a few wood swords hanging as well.
On the left hand side, there was a cot with a thick mattress on it pushed to the side. Looking closely, it was like the cot was an extension of the trees. Near it was a small pond, glistening and steaming.
"Is that hot water in the pond?" Aurora asked.
"Yes. It is mineral rich, saline water that can knit back any wounds, and soothe bruises" she replied.
"How?".
"Can you see that rock in the middle of the pond?" Kaira asked her, indicating her head towards the pond.
Aurora peered in and nodded.
"When you place it on a wound, it will absorb all the sand and dirt, and will heal the wound. It will release the dirt when placed on the soil for a moment. Each Maiden gave one to their first Descendants" she said.
"So... Magic?" .
"No! I am not talking about the petty card tricks you humans use. I am talking about the Primordial Powers of nature" she said, the flames on her head glowing in a dangerous shade of red.
Aurora returned to looking at the room. There were shelves a few meters away from the pond, the top shelf filled with grains and pulses and the next shelf filled with towels and a few spare clothes.
The room had everything.
She sat on the bed, and almost sunk deep into the mattress. It was so soft and luxurious.
"What is this thing made of?" she asked Kaira, amazed at it, mentally declaring her love for it.
"It's stuffed with phoenix feathers," she said.
"Your feathers?" Aurora asked her, surprised.
"You know how many feathers you shed when you live for over a millenia? I had collected it and stuffed it under a piece of cloth your Ancestor gave me" she said, preening her wings.
She sat on the mattress for some more time and she almost slept until Kaira started screeching.
She snapped awake.
"Good. You woke" Kaira said.
"I never slept in the first place to wake!" she exclaimed.
Kaira stared at her, unblinking and said, "You would have, and your cut would have become septic and it would have started swelling. First go and take a bath".
"Fine!" .
There was a pause as she stormed off to the cupboard to get a towel.
"Don't be angry. I know you are exhausted. But you do need to take a bath. Or else it will become serious and will hurt a lot" Kaira said softly.
