Chapter 9.
(Karlie's POV)As soon as we made it to the hideout, I bolted to the basement-well, my "room". Faith soon followed suit after seeing me.
"Something wrong?" She asked me.
"I'm fucking done with this place and I'm done with Luke. I want to leave Faith." I sat on the bed, head in my hands. I heard Faith gasp and walk up to me. She then pulled my arm and examined my wrist. It was starting to bruise after the incident with Luke in the car. Curse my fragile skin.
"Did he do this?" I stayed silent. "I'm gonna fucking kill him."
"Not before I do." I gave her a fake grin and she kissed my forehead.
"Just hang in there babe, we'll find a way out."
"Well in the meantime, I'm going to steer clear of Luke."
She nodded. "What even happened at the mall?"
I spilled about everything. The little incident at Forever 21 with the cashier, the kiss, the goose chase at the mall and almost getting caught, and lastly, what happened in the car. She looked at me with a smirk on her face.
"What?" I asked.
"You like Luke." She smiled smugly and poked my side.
"That's insane."
"It makes perfect sense. If you didn't like him, you wouldn't have been upset after he kissed you and called you annoying."
"That's what every girl would do though."
"Mmmm, not in the way you did."
I shook my head and laughed. "Me? Like Luke? Insane. I think that living here has gotten to your head, Faith."
"Mhm, if you say soooo." She then walked up the stairs and stopped just before the door and turned around. "Just throwing this out there but you two seem to need each other. I can just feel it, you guys are going to end up together. Just saying."
I laughed. "Bye Faith."
She waved and winked at me before leaving the room.
I thought about what Faith said. Me and Luke. Now that I think about it, I can see us together. In a weird, messed up way, we work.
I now decided what to do in the free time I had. I walked up to the door and left the basement.
(Luke's POV)
I laid in my bed, completely exhausted. This day just ended up being a drag. I think Karlie hates me even more now, which isn't really good in my case, since I have these newly found feelings for her. I kissed her and then called her annoying, and on top of that, I twisted her wrist in the car! And truth be told, I actually did enjoy the kiss. I enjoyed it a lot. But, I doubt that she even wants to speak to me again. I rolled around in my bed, mentally arguing with myself.
"You're stupid Luke."
"Shut up Luke."
Great, now I'm arguing with myself. I really am insane. I was so wrapped up in my thoughts, I didn't even notice the knock at my door.
"Luke?" A voice softly spoke. I knew that voice. Karlie.
"Come in." I replied. She walked in and I sat up, patting the spot next to me.
"What's up?" I asked.
"I just wanted to say sorry, for, you know, being a bitch?" She said. I chuckled.
"You have every right. I'm the one that kidnapped you for God's sake."
"True. Anyways, since we're basically living together now, I figured we should get to know each other. So....wanna play Quickfire?"
"Quickfire?" I asked in confusion.
"It's basically 20 questions except you ask the first thing that comes to your head."
"Well then why don't we just play 20 questions?"
"Cause I like Quickfire better okay?" She snapped. I raised my brow but shrugged it off.
"Whatever floats your boat Karlie."
"Okay! Uh....Any family members?"
I hesitated for a moment before saying,"Don't wanna talk about it."
She looked at me with a sympathetic look. "I'll tell if you tell."
I sighed and nodded. "I lived with my mom. My dad left us at an early age. I made money for me and my mom by joining my first gang as a child. I'd always do these dangerous tasks like I do now. In the end though, it backfired. I came home one day and saw my mother layingbon the ground...a pool of blood surrounding her. Someone killed my mother. I've been trying to figure out who since. I promised myself that I'd find them and kill them. To avenge my mother's death."
I looked up at Karlie, she was teary-eyed. "Luke..."
"Don't cry. I'm fine. I have Michael and Ashton and Calum. They're all the family I need. I'm fine, really. What about yours?"
"Well I already told you about how they died. Someone came and murdered them. I've been living with Faith since. I wish I knew who killed them, though. I'd avenge their deaths in a heartbeat. But I'm not strong. I wouldn't be able to kill them. I'd try to though, I'd try my hardest."
"Oh..." was all I could mutter. I felt extremely bad now. If she found out that I was the one that killed her parents, I don't know what I'd do. I was so deep in thought again, I totally forgot that she was here with me.
"Luke?"
"Huh? I mean.... yeah?"
"Can you promise me something?" She looked up at me with hopeful eyes.
"Sure." I stared back into her eyes.
"Can you promise me that you'll help me find who killed my parents? Please?"
I sighed and thought it over. I would never tell her that I was the one who killed her parents. I mean, how could I? I couldn't break her heart like that, and she seemed to really trust me. I can't make a promise I can't keep, but at the same time, I can't say no to her.
"... I promise."
Fuck.
