Grace

I was alone in the living room waiting for Ling and Georgia. Caleb was in his room as usual; he was always in there. I stared at the reflection of the clock on the blank TV screen, it was very distracting.

Ling wanted to follow me home, but she had to get some art supplies from her mom's art studio because I don't have any. Georgia just didn't want to follow me; I didn't want her to follow me too. A lot of people have been asking if we're related; Georgia and me. I wonder what the neighbors will say when they see her here. People around here are really nosy, and I know I'm one of those nosy neighbors, the people living next door throw parties a lot, sometimes I call police to complain just for fun, Jenna always has a funny reaction when the police pull up in front of her house, she doesn't know I'm the one who calls them, she'll never know. One time I was so bored that I actually went over to her house when she was throwing one of her parties, her friends are pretty chill but there were a lot of people there that weren't her friends, a fight broke out, so I left with some food and watched movies at home until daybreak it was an eventful night.

The sound of the doorbell brought me out of my thoughts. I stretched out on the sofa before standing to get the door. I walked to the door, my socks sliding against the floor.

" You could have just opened it yourself Ling " I say as I open the door. She walks into the house with a hand full of art supplies and I shut the door.

" You didn't take long at all " I say sarcastically.

" Yup " she says returning the sarcasm.

I help her take the things the living room where we're gonna do the project. She begins dropping stuff on the floor beside the coffee table. Brushes, palettes, pencils and paints of different variations, she brought them out of her bag one by one and placed them carefully on the floor. I sat on the sofa and watched her; her movements were oddly distracting, and I found myself lost in the continuous motion. She suddenly froze and looked at me, she turned the empty bag around and tried pouring the remaining contents on the floor. Obviously, nothing came out, the bag was empty. She stood up and started tapping her pockets.

" Scissors " She says, " I forgot the scissors. "

" What do we need scissors for, I thought we're painting " I ask confused. Ling shoots me a look.

" What do you need a TV for, I thought you don't use it " she says trying to mimic my voice. I decide to ignore.

" I think we have scissors " I say. She sighs with relief, and I turn to get the scissors. I'm not sure where they are so I go to ask Caleb in his room, but conveniently he comes down the stairs, he probably heard Ling's voice.

" Caleb, do you know where the scissors are" I ask.

" Check mom's room " he says and pauses when he sees Ling. Caleb has had a crush Ling since the first day he saw her when she came over although he never admitted it I just know.

" Hi Ling " he says in a tiny voice and walks past me smiling. I almost throw up on the spot out of disgust, but I hold it in when I think of who's going to clean it up.

" Oh, hi Caleb " Ling say. Unlike Caleb her voice is normal, I don't think she likes him back, but I guess I'll never really know, I don't think Caleb is planning to tell her ever.

I Quickly go up the stairs, so I don't hear their conversation. I push my mom's room door open when I get there and walk in. I don't usually come in here, so it feels kind of odd. I ignore the feeling and go to her desk in front of the window and pull open the drawer. It's messed up so I have to take out some books and papers out of the drawer before I see the scissors. I took it out and smiled to myself, easy-peasy. I put the books back in, but a piece of paper falls out as I do it. I picked it up and see it's actually a picture.
