It wasn't his duty to advice Brett, right? Right? Brett was a full-grown man perfectly capable of recognizing situations like this, right?

That's basically what Eddy tried to tell himself every morning as he stepped in his office. He also tried to talk to Belle which was not shocked by the event by any means knowing how Susan got with one of the con professors to have good grades. She was just a tiny bit surprized because every time she talked with her about Brett she seemed really interested.

She agreed with him that telling Brett would have costed his job and he was so very in need so it was a no. A solid loud no.

Fortunately for Eddy Brett seemed pretty slow with the developments of the relationship and so for the next months it was fairly easy to keep his composure every time the girl stepped into the office.

Until.

Eddy: "That's all for tomorrow's schedule"

Brett: "Ok, thank you Eddy...oh hem, can you free me a spot the day after tomorrow?"

Eddy: "Sure, how much time do you need?"

Brett: "I think a couple of hours will do thank you"

Eddy: "No problem"

Eddy was about to go for the door but when he looked at Brett he noticed the man seemed hesitant.

Eddy: "Can I help you with some other things?"

Brett: "Oh...I actually don't...well may I ask for your advice?"

Eddy: "Sure"

Brett: "I wanted to get Susan a promise ring...you know that's why I needed time..."

Eddy: "Oh..."

Oh no

Brett: "I don't want ask for marriage of course I mean it's just barely over eight months but...she seems to be ready for taking a step further while I don't and I just don't want her to misunderstand things...you know making her understand that I'm totally serious but I need just a little bit more time..."

Eddy scratched his nape making a complex face.

Eddy: "I don't know Brett...I mean you perfectly know by now that my previous relationship didn't involve any marriage or promise whatsoever for more than five years...I mean...eight months are a little time if you ask me...if she's being so insistent, I can't help but wonder if her feelings are genuine...or maybe she is searching for something else..."

Now before we analyse Brett's answer let me just explain why he really wanted to buy Susan a ring: he was having fantasies, like weird fantasies. Every time Eddy walked in the studio with his perfectly fitting suit, or made slip a detail about his private life, which were much more after the 'gay secret' was discovered, he would simply go crazy.

It happened many times now that the image of taking Eddy right on the desk flashed in front of his eyes, and he was starting to doubt everything in his life.

So when Eddy was trying to point out what could have been a perfectly logical explanation behind Susan's behaviour he...exploded.

Brett: "You're implying my Susan is a gold digger?"

He said with a dry tone standing from the desk.

Eddy: "Well I cannot be sure of course but being you in your position I would at least consider..."

Brett: "Consider? Who are you to do this to me Eddy?"

He asked making Eddy confused about the choice of words

Eddy: "I was just giving my opinion since you asked for it..."

Brett: "Yes I asked for it and apparently you think this low of my Susan, should I ask you if maybe the gold digger is you, Eddy?"
