Unexpected clichè

Cap. 7: Away from you

Caty: “What does it mean that he quitted?”

She asked following the man into his office.

Brett: “He decided to quit yesterday”

He repeated with a nervous tone while putting his coat on the hanger. Caty looked at him with wide eyes trying to process the info.

Caty: “What have you done?”

She asked after a while sensing there was something more to it. Like cornered Brett started to sweat and stutter

Brett: “N-nothing…”

Caty: “O my God…you don’t remember do you?”

She asked letting herself fall onto the chair in front of the desk.

Brett: “Fuck”

He turned toward the window wall trying to cover his puffy eyes that were getting teary again.

Brett: “What do I do? I messed up so badly and I don’t remember a thing!”

Caty: “So you did something”

Brett: “I fear yes…or he wouldn’t have been this angry at me yesterday morning…”

Caty’s eyes bulged

Caty: “Did you sleep with him?!”

Brett: “I…I don’t know, ok? We were in the same bed half naked and our clothes were in the drier…I fear I vomited at some point, but I don’t know when…”

He admitted letting himself fall into his chair.

Caty: “Sorry Brett but I have to ask…do you have some sort of feelings for him you didn’t talk about before?”

It was a perfectly fine question to do now but it was the last push and Brett was crying like a baby.

He nodded and buried his face in his hands.

Brett: “I was a complete dick…I asked him relationships advices because Susan was becoming insistent and then when he was trying to make me notice that she could have possibly been a gold digger I started to accuse him of having feelings for me and started treating him really badly…I just didn’t want to end things with Susan for something like this…”

Caty: “Like what?”

Brett: “Sudden…I never experienced a lust so violent in my life until Eddy entered the door of this office…”

Caty: “So it doesn’t bother you the fact that he is male but the fact that he gives you feelings that are powerful?”

Brett nodded once again

Caty: “And Susan?”

Brett wiped his face with a napkin and tried to collect himself

Brett: “Apparently he was right…he had a recording of her talking to someone at the phone and explaining how she would have robbed me after getting a ring on her finger…after the fact that I treated him like garbage he was still ready to lose his position to save me from that monster…”

Caty’s face was troubled, because as you can tell from the previous chapters, she wasn’t exactly fond of the girl and at the same time she wasn’t happy Brett had to discover this way, especially because Eddy was involved, and not in a good way.

Caty: “So what are you gonna do now…except for leaving Susan I guess”

Brett: “Yes I already called her and I’ll be dealing immediately with the matter…but regarding Eddy I actually don’t know…we still have his contacts but…”
