Background- Rowan and you had always had an unspoken friendship due to you both being the best of the best in your academics. Whereas usually, Rowan would want to throw someone who thinks they're better than them against the wall, you've always been an exception.
_____________//// Y/n Pov ////
It was the beginning of winter break. Most students had already gone home. I would be staying here. My parents and I weren't close. They preferred to keep me here anyway. It was the same thing every year. I stay here. I'll get a book in the mail in a week or two. They were surprisingly good at picking books out for me.
I sat alone in my dorm, blankets pulled up and the heater in the corner turned on. I hadn't planned on doing anything today, even though it was pretty much free range. I was growing bored of laying in my room watching movies. It was also beginning to grow unbearably hot.
I decided to bundle up and go outside. As I took out my headphones I realized they were ice cold. Whatever. I put them in my ears regardless, shivering at the cold plastic. I put on my converse, due to not owning any boots. Boots were never really my thing, even in the freezing cold.
As I walked through the halls I tried thinking who all was left that I could hang out with. There was a significant amount of people that left this year. The only people I was even comfortable enough to hang out with that were still here were Xavier and Rowan. Xavier and I had always been close. I was like his therapist for all of his girl problems. I had heard all about his troubles with Bianca.
And Rowan...
Rowan and I always had an interesting friendship. I'm one of the smartest people in the school, next to Rowan. I never understood why he didn't resent me for it, but I was definitely thankful for it. Even though he and I didn't speak too often, we were always around each other. We sat next to each other studying in the library, sitting in class, and even eating lunch. All in silence. It was a comfortable silence though, you both understood you could be around each other and still focus on yourselves.
I wish he talked to me more though. He had always been kind to me, and I seemed to be forming feelings for him. I decided to go to Xavier's dorm to talk to him about it before going outside to read in the crisp winter air.
I silently prayed that Rowan wasn't in there at the moment, trying to form a backup plan if he was ( Play it off by asking about his new love interest, Wednesday). I knocked on the door and it was immediately opened by Xavier. He looked at me with a little bit of surprise and a kind smile.
"Hey Y/n, What's up?"
"Uhhh. I need to talk to you about something...Is Rowan here?"
"No, he's in the library-"
"Good."
I walked in and pulled out the chair by his desk, plopping myself and my stuff down. Xavier came over and sat across from me on his bed.
"Dude you're scaring me. What's going on?"
"Xav. I think I like Rowan." You expected this truth bomb to completely shock him, but he didn't really get the message.
"Well, I know Rowan is kind of abrasive at times but I didn't think it'd be too hard to like him."
I facepalmed at his idiocy.
"NO. Xavier. Like more than friends."
"OHH. Wow. You haven't liked anyone since I MET you. This is different. Listen, dude, I say go for it. I mean it's Rowan Laslow. Plus you two always seem pretty..close?"
"I don't know Xav. We've never really spoken. I don't even know what I would say or how I would word it."
"Well, you have all the time in the world to think about it. But if you do it soon you could hang out before break ends, he would probably like that since there aren't as many people here."
