I woke up in my shared dorm with Wednesday and my sister Enid. Enid and I had always been close, but I wasn't as energetic as her. I preferred a late start to my day and enjoyed my time alone.

But she had always been there for me. Even when I wolfed out before her. And even when I told her about developing feelings toward my best friend, Xavier Thorpe.

Xavier and I basically grew up together. We had been on countless vacations with each other, along with countless relationships and breakups, along with family drama.

We were practically inseparable.

But now school had started. And ever since I started liking Xavier I was trying to avoid him.

Whenever I was around someone I liked, I practically shut down. Stuttering, fumbling my words, and nervous looks were my go-to.

Xavier knew this. He knew everything about me.

I couldn't let him see me.

Today was a leisurely day. No classes would take place until tomorrow. I decided to take a quick run before the sun rose.

I walked out the door and down the halls, adjusting my watch to track my run. Even though I had successfully avoided Xavier for a week, we still had a competition going on to see who could run more.

I was winning.

I headed out onto my usual path and started. I loved the way running felt. How my lungs burned and the soreness of my legs after. It was truly a euphoric feeling to me.

It was cold this morning, so I didn't have to worry about overheating. The trees were covered in a light frost and the air had a certain crisp feeling to it.

I then looked down to see how I was doing, mostly looking to view how successful the run was going.

I then collided with another person.

Please. Don't be him.

It was.

Stupid. You know he takes the same path. You used to run TOGETHER.

He looked down and observed my face quickly before lighting up.

"Y/n! Oh my god, I feel like I haven't seen you in forever!"

He then pulled me into a tight hug, which I didn't return. I froze.

When he realized I wasn't returning the hug, or even saying anything, he let go and gave me a confused look.

"Are you okay? You never let down the opportunity to crush me."

I was looking in every direction but his face, trying to be subtle. But it wasn't working as well as I had hoped.

"Did I do something? You haven't been talking to me. And we haven't hung out in forever. What's going on?"

He gave me a worried look and put his hand on the side of my face to tilt my head and make eye contact with him.

As soon as his hand came into contact with my skin I stepped back a little bit.

"I-I gotta go." I mentally cursed at myself for how cowardly I was being.

It was just Xavier.
