Billy had no idea what to think of Christmas anymore.
On the one hand, this is the time he had "lost" his mom. Which started a ten year old search for the woman with who he shared DNA.
On the other hand, this is now also the time he's gotten an awesome family and a set of really cool superpowers.
Should the positive outweigh the negative now? Or should the negative parts still affect him? Does that mean he should forever hate the holiday because of the bad or is he allowed to have some fun this year?
"Hey dumbass, what you doing up there. I can basically hear your gears grinding in your head!"
Billy looked over the side of his bunk bed, where Freddy was sitting on his bed reading something off his phone.
"Are you sure it isn't your brain that is making the noise? O wait, there is nothing going on up there." He said back with a smirk on his face. The two brothers had started to banter a bit after the carnival. And surprisingly, Billy really enjoyed it.
Freddy gave him his signature fake laugh and flipped him off as he went back to reading whatever he read on his phone, but Billy lingered a bit.
"Hey Freddy, got any tips on how to survive Christmas around here?"
"Oh, you just got to buy earplugs if you want to have some sleep on Christmas morning. Besides that you should be good" Freddy mumbled while not looking away from his device.
Billy looked at him for a second before laying down, but the answer didn't satisfy Billy at all...
Screw it
"But like, what do you guys do around Christmas?"
Freddy looked up to him with a hint of confusion on his face, like he didn't expect Billy to be curious about his family.
"I guess we watch some Christmas movies every year. Oh, and we get to stay up longer to watch Die Hard, which is really cool actually. Last year I was finally allowed to see it with the others. We will probably watch a Christmas carol movie, but I don't know which one yet and-"
"Okay, okay. I get it, you watch Christmas movies." He exclaimed "Seriously, get to the point."
Freddy let out a small huff but continued non the less. "So, we still do Santa because Darla officially still believes, although I don't know how much that is true since a few days back, but we do give some small gifts to each other, those are the stocking gifts."
Billy's heart missed a beat by the last part. He was supposed to do that? Why did nobody tell him that? Oh god, how many days where left till Christmas morning?
"Billy, your okay? You look a bit pale."
Billy opened his mouth to answer, and promptly closed it when he realized he had nothing. He quickly climbed down from his bed and hurried towards the door. "I am really thirsty, I'll be right back."
Billy's muscle memory kicked in as his thoughts kept running rampant in his mind. So rampant that he accidently bumped into Mary. Billy scurried back, apologizing deeply to his foster sister for bumping into her. Mary just waved if off with a laugh.
"What is on your mind?" Mary asked. Billy looked confused for a second "How did you know there was something on my mind?"
Mary gave him a knowing look.
Billy signed as he gave in. "It is just, well..." He couldn't come out of his words.
"Overwhelming?" Mary asked.
"I guess so. I never really had a Christmas where I settled down, and if I did I never had it with other people. How do I know I won't mess up your traditions?" Billy mumbled.
