“All I’m saying is that it’s probably because they did something shady.” I stated one more time to my brother who was trying to get a look at the message that was left on the floor next to the body.
He glanced at me tiredly. “I’m not saying that, that wasn’t why, but we don’t have enough evidence.”
I rolled my eyes at that. You don’t roll with your instincts. I know that he can tell too but refuses to acknowledge it without any more evidence. Which I guess is the proper way to do things, but still.
That’s one of the differences between him and Harley.
Harley has these ‘weird feelings’ as he says but they're his instincts. And they’re sharp. Jimmy has them too but it’s a little different. More like mine honestly.
“I don’t detect a change in body temperature so the time of death was most likely just minutes ago.” Nadia informed them.
Minutes ago, huh? “This tape is approximately five minutes and thirty seconds of silence at the beginning.” So he died around then. That doesn’t leave a lot of room for the killing. But if it was we would have seen them, at least the Dweeb would.
“It’s a piece of music.” Meguire noted, eying the message on the floor. Hmm. Yeah, no it means nothing to me. “It could be another message left by the victim before he croaked.” Richard speculated.
I crouched down next to my brother, leaning my face in my hand. “That’s stupid. This is a lot of time and effort, why would a dying man do that when he could get help. Dumbass. Besides, I don’t think he’s that smart.”
I mean look at him. He’s dead isn’t he? Richard glared at me, but only did it deepen when the Dweeb spoke. “She’s right. I believe the killer was trying to leave us a message.” My brother agreed, writing in that little notebook of his.
Richard clenched his fist and went to strike, but I leaned back to avoid it, causing him to hit my brother. Another of his target. “Don’t be smart!” He shouted, but the force caused my brother to fall on the floor.
The floor containing the message.
The two detectives and cop screamed before Richard snatched him up off of it. “Idiot you’re on the evidence!” He shouted.
The five of us wearily looked to see if it’s ruined. Thank god it’s dried. Wait a second. That’s not right. Richard let out a breath of relief. “Phew. Good, it's dry. Now scram kids, you’re getting in the way of the investigation.”
I smacked him atop his head making him cry out, but stood nonetheless. “You were the one who almost damaged the evidence by making him fall. C’mon Squirt.” I motioned for him to follow which he did without much complaint.
The two of us left the room and headed to where everyone was gathered.
As we walked I glanced down at my brother. “Dweeb. How long does it take blood to dry?” He looked up at me curiously and thought. As he did his eyes widened a bit and he looked at me in awe of the discovery. “Thirty minutes at room temperature. Wow Stella, good eye.”
I scratched my cheek looking up and averting his gaze. “Well I fight a lot. It doesn’t really dry fast then. But they said he died just before he was discovered. Think they planted it there before?” I asked.
My brother pinched his chin in thought. “I don’t know. There’s not a lot of clues to work with right now, they’re all out of order. It’s possible.”
As we neared the small group of people waiting in the lobby he dropped his arms and looked up at me. “We’ll need to keep an eye out. Especially on those that were in this building during that time.”
