Rose's POV

"Would anyone like to explain why I was just in a meeting to stop a war with a pack in the South?" I asked in a calm tone but I was livid. The question was directed toward Elizabeth, one of my oldest friends. She often had a habit of getting on the wrong side of werewolves.

Elias and Caleb stood tensely in my office, wavering ever so slightly as they knew my temper could get out of hand at times. Especially when it came to this jackass, it was silent for a moment before she decided to speak up.

"There was an altercation," Elizabeth replied, shrugging her shoulders unbothered, turning away from my direction. That was all it took for me to lose my composure.

"An altercation, what the fuck Liz!", I seethed, fighting the urge to strangle her where she stood.

"Don't give me that, those fucking mutts attacked me, I was defending myself", she growled, crossing her arms against her chest.

"If you hadn't provoked them in the first place, that wouldn't have been necessary!" I fired back with a beaming death glare. I don't have time for her shit.

"The matter has been resolved for the time being, but they expect an apology." I directed toward her.

"Like hell", she scoffed. I took a breath while closing my eyes.

"Elizabeth, let's not forget what we're trying to achieve here. You promised you'd help." I stated in a softer tone, knowing that it would get her to comply.

"Yeah, yeah world peace", she pinched the bridge of her nose, "You're lucky I love you." I let out a sigh of relief as she strutted out of my office. That's one matter dealt with on my list of ever-growing problems.

First, the accomplice who was finally about to give us information on the man who murdered our parents was killed in his cell while under heavy guard. Then the safehouse where I sent the kids I saved was attacked by rogues. Only a handful of people knew the location of the safe house. Fortunately, no one was hurt and I relocated them off the books.

These two occurrences led me to believe that there was a traitor in our midst, so I launched a private investigation. And to top it off this shit with Elizabeth and the pack in the south. I wasn't even gone for that long and all hell decided to break loose. I haven't gotten the chance to talk to Ezra yet, not that I can bring myself to call her after losing control with her like that.

"You two were supposed to ensure that this contract went through without any complications." I shifted my gaze to Caleb and Elias, who exchanged glances before returning my gaze.

"We have some bad news", Caleb expressed concern. Great, what now?

"The test on the venom came back", Elias announced, making me furrow my brows.

"I don't see how that's bad news." I stated, glancing over at my aunt Sarah who walked into my office.

"The system identified the venom as yours", Caleb said cautiously as Elias watched me intently. The fuck?

"Are you sure?" I questioned.

"We personally double-checked just to be sure", Elias replied with a worried expression.

"Who else knows?" I inquired as calmly as I could muster, crossing my arms and leaning back in my chair.

"So far, it's just the lab staff and us," Caleb replied, his face puzzled.

"I'd like to keep this information private until I personally investigate the matter," I stated. Just as things were getting back to normal between our spices.
