Ezra's POV

I stood outside the door taking in a deep breath before James opened it. I stepped in and saw my mother sitting beside the bed holding my father's hand, while Sophia was wiping him off.

My mother got up and embraced me in a warm hug, tears running down her face. Sophia and James stepped out of the room closing the door behind them.

"I'm so glad you made it back safely", she cried as I wrapped my arms around her. She had beautiful long brown locks going just past her shoulders. She had hazel eyes and was the same height as me.

"I missed you", I whispered as she pulled back bringing her hands up to cup my face, wiping away a few stray tears.

I walked over to my father's side and held his hand gently gliding my thumb across his knuckles. "Hey dad", I called as he shifted slightly, opening his eyes and squinting at me. "I'm home."

"E...Ezra..", he stuttered, coughing a little. Mom grabbed some water and brought it over, holding the straw for him to drink.

He thanked her before returning his gaze to me. "How have you been sweetie?", he asked.

"Good, although aunt Claire is a real piece of work", I replied, and he started laughing.

"We tried to warn you", mom said sitting back down.

"I really missed you guys", I said looking at them.

We talked for a bit, catching up with each other. I knew what was coming next. I could only avoid the conversation for so long, but when the words left his mouth, I broke a little.

"I want you to take my place as alpha", he said.

"Dad, everything's going to be okay, James said the healer will be here in the morning. You'll be just fine", I said. He took in a deep breath as a sorrowful look fell on his face.

"Even so, I'd like you to consider the option", he said, "I plan on stepping down anyways."

"Of course", I said.

We discussed the arrangements he made for me to take his place. I told them goodnight before heading to the dining hall.

I grabbed something to eat before making my way over to Tris and Asher. "You know I'm still mad at you for convincing us to pass through hunter territory", I said, sitting down.

"Hey, we were making good time before somebody tripped the wire", she said, stressing on somebody while glaring at Asher.

"I said I was sorry okay", he said raising his hands.

I simply laughed as they argued with each other. I informed them about my father's condition and asked if they got any information on his poisoning. They said they heard rumors from the pack that the vampire queen had planned it all along.

A few weeks ago she had sent some of her people to help around the pack, they said it was all part of her ploy. They had already put her group in confinement and started questioning them about the incident.

After discussing this we went our separate ways. I just wanted to clear my mind and get some fresh air, so I decided to go for a run. I shifted to my wolf feeling the cool air pass through my fur. My wolf has a white coat and stood at about ten feet tall.

I was bigger than most wolves because my father came from a long line of Primordials. The most powerful werewolves in existence and we possess abilities that normal werewolves don't. It also makes me wonder how strong of a poison they used on my dad.

The path slowly began to fade as I ran deeper into the darkness of the woods. Suddenly, I felt myself being immersed by the most alluring smell of lavender. It was pulling me in like a magnet. I stopped just outside the vampire's domain near a waterfall. My heart dropped as I took in the person bathing there, she was the most beautiful woman I've ever laid eyes on. She froze as she gazed at my wolf deeply.

Her hair was a deep red, and long. Her skin was fair and her face was beautifully symmetrical. My eyes drifted downwards, staring at her amazing body. Everything inside me was fuzzing, her boobs... they were huge, and her abs were defined. I wanted so badly to touch her. I struggled to bring my eyes back up to hers, she was absolutely remarkable. I knew at that moment I would do everything in my power to protect her.
