Ezra's POV
"Why are we all the way in the medical wing? You know I hate it here", Tris whined, as I guided her down the halls.
"I know, but I need you on this. We believe we can reverse engineer an antidote for the poison." I stated.
As it turns out, it's the same poison that was used on my father. We were able to identify some magical properties, but they were quite advanced. The majority of the poison's components are going to be difficult to obtain.
One component that stood out was vampire venom which was used as a paralyzing agent. Rose and her research team are working with us to compare our samples to those in their databases. Because their venom has a distinct set of identification markers we can figure out if it's from someone within her system.
"You'll be working with Sophia, who will be leading a research team to retrieve the items. I need you to provide her with transportation and security", I explained as I opened the white door leading to the research area in the hospital wing.
"Of course, anything I can do to help." She looked like she was deep in thought.
As we approached Sophia's door I could hear Tris's heart rate increasing. I was about to ask what was wrong when she froze as Sophia stepped out of her office. I glanced between the two as they just stared at each other.
"Sophia, will you please fill Tris in on the details of this project", I grinned as she nodded in response while blushing heavily.
(I want all the details), I teased Tris. She turned to me glaring, giving me the finger before leaving with Sophia. I strolled back to my office, still having a lot of work to get done.
Rose. As soon as I stepped into the building I could smell her intoxicating aroma. Not wasting any time I sped up the stairs following her scent. My eyes landed on the redhead sitting on a chair outside my office scrolling through her phone. Her head quickly turned to me, making me stop in my tracks.
A growing smile on her face as she switched off her phone and stood up. She looks way better than the last time I saw her. Reminding myself to move I awkwardly waved, smiling back at her like an idiot. The fuck? I ain't never did that before.
"I'm so sorry, were you waiting long? I didn't even know you were here. Why didn't you tell me you were coming? I would've-", I rambled on before cutting my sentence short realizing she was just staring at me with a grin.
"Well, I wanted to surprise you, so no need to apologize", she said, causing my cheeks to heat up. She grabbed a bag off the chair holding it out to me. Jimmy's, she remembered.
"Chicken parm."
"Oh my god, I love you", I moaned, practically drooling as I took the food from her. Her eyes suddenly darkened, a flicker of red as she peered down at me. The more time we spent staring at each other, the more my body began to heat up. Her eyes were filled with thick, suffocating desire. The intensity of the experience caused my knees to buckle as I searched for something to hold onto.
I gripped her forearm, almost dropping the bag of food. She groaned lowly and wrapped her arm around my waist, helping to steady me. I swallowed a moan as the sound rippled throughout my body. Her fingers trailed down the length of my arm as she took the bag from me, sending a heat down to my core.
"Shit", she muttered lowly, biting her lip as she glanced down at mine. Slowly leaning in, she tightened her grip on my waist, causing me to let out a whimper. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes, pausing for a brief minute. She opened her eyes once more and distanced herself a little as the crimson in her eyes gradually faded away.
