Ezra's POV

Twigs and leaves crunching under my paws, the cold air filling my lungs as I breathe deeply, desperate to get to safety. My shoulder ached with every step I took, the arrow was buried deep within my flesh, and a splintering pain coursed through my leg. My heart beating fast in my chest, my limbs almost didn't obey my commands, but we had to keep moving.

Hunters were hot on our trail, the headlights of the jeep almost blinding me as I looked behind. Panic started to take over me as I couldn't find my best friend. (Tris, where are you?), I asked through the pack link.

(I can't sense her), Asher, one of my close friends, replied. Fear started to wrap itself around my body.

(I told her this was a bad idea!), I shouted, regretting having listened to her. Not long after I heard a familiar howl not far ahead, I felt some relief knowing that we were almost at our territory.

As we crossed over, the hunters stopped their vehicle just behind our lines. The wolves stood firmly, bearing their fangs at them. I joined growling loudly at the man in the passenger seat, aiming his crossbow at us. They turned around and drove away as we stood our ground.

My mind still racing as to Tris's whereabouts, I was about to go look for her when James, another of my close friends, informed me that she was already back at the packhouse. How did she get there? I thought to myself as we made our way back.

I transformed back, my bones snapping back into place as I laid on the ground growling in pain. Someone wrapped a cover around me, I winced as I tried to get up.

I was faced with a woman that had medium, wavy, black hair, and green eyes. She was a little shorter than me. I clenched my jaw as she observed the arrow in my shoulder.

"You've already started the healing process. We'll have to cut out the arrow", the woman said.

"What's your name?", I asked as she guided me along the way.

"Sophia", she replied with a smile.

After I was finished getting myself patched up and got into some clothes, I went to find Asher. He was talking to a pack member as I signaled for him to come over. He has short, wavy, red hair and blue eyes. He's about six feet tall and has a scar on the right side of his mouth.

"Once you're done staring at him can we go look for Tris?", I teased, he rolled his eyes.

"I can't help it, he's so damn hot," he pouted while I tried to hold in my laugh.

We took off to search for Tris and found her in the dining hall, having a drink with some of the pack members. She has red hair reaching the base of her neck and light green eyes. She was slim and was about my height.

"Hey, took you guys long enough", she said walking up to us.

"You little bitch!", I shouted while wrapping my hands around her throat, shaking her slightly, "I was worried sick about you!"

"Kinky", she said with a smirk.

"How the hell did you get here?", Asher asked after pulling me off of her.

"I took a shortcut", she replied while shrugging her shoulders.

"Hold up, so you just left our asses to die?", Asher questioned.

"I ran ahead to get help, but I was too tired to return", she said. I started to calm myself, I was relieved to know that she was alive.

"I told her she could stay", James said coming up from behind us. He has blue eyes and short curly black hair. He's a little taller than Asher.

"I'm disappointed in your decision to pass through the hunter's territory, but I'm grateful you guys made it back alive", he said.

I sighed and looked at him, as he scolded us. He turned to me with sympathy in his eyes before pulling me into a hug. "I'm glad you're home, though I wish it was under better circumstances", he said while pulling back.

"Yeah, me too", I said.

"We should go see him", he said.

Asher and Tris said they'd wait for me at the dining hall, hugging me each before James and I left to see my father.

"How's his condition? " I asked feeling my emotions build up with every step we took.

"He's holding up pretty well, though the poison seems to be working fast", he replied, "the healer will arrive in the morning."

I looked around recalling my childhood, spent within these walls. The nostalgic feeling running through me as I gently passed my fingertips along the wall. I wish I never left this place, maybe I could've spent more time with my father.
