[2002 Words]
The moment I woke up, I knew...today would be quite the day. My heart thudded from the excitement as I leaped out of my bed and immediately dressed into my school uniform- the violet pants and casual shirt with the Uva Academy broach on it. I turned my gaze left, just a bit, and stared at my wall. A poster that had been taped on with much care sat comfortably on the wall, and I grinned. I don't know who I'm gonna choose yet, but I know whoever I pick will be my partner for the rest of my journey. Probably even my life. As I made my way to the stairs, I heard someone downstairs, talking.
I took a deep breath and listened carefully. My mother was just down the steps, talking with someone, although I couldn't hear who. Maybe it was the neighbors across the way...the ones who lived in that giant mansion. Or worst case, the Director of the new school I'm gonna go to today...I hoped it wasn't the latter. I wasn't ready to leave yet. Maybe in like, an hour...I still had to ponder my starter decision...say goodbye...
"Thank you, Director Clavell. I'll let her kn-"
That's all I needed to hear. I took my bag and my hat, then flung myself down the steps as fast as I could. I had to skip a step right at the bottom because our family Skwovet was nibbling on the steps at the bottom again, and I tripped awkwardly. I let out a yelp and flung my arms to catch something before I smashed face-first into the ground, pain bursting through my nose to the rest of my face. My heart thumped, and I was pretty sure the Director could hear it racing. It could probably provide enough energy to power all of Galar, it was going so fast.
"Oh my." I heard my mother wince, and I sat up, placing my hand behind my neck. Shoot. That was all I could think. The old man in front of me exhaled as if he were sighing. "You are Miss Rocco, correct?" The tall man said, his arms behind his back. He kinda reminded me of...an entitled grape. Probably because he was looking down on me. He was looking down at me, pathetic and on the floor.
My mother cleared her throat after I didn't respond and I jumped onto my feet. "Oh. Yep. I mean, uh, yeah— Yes, that's my name." My friends call me Rocky though- which, was useless information, he didn't need to know that. So I just kept my mouth shut.
"Great. My name is Director Clavell. I'm the headmaster of Uva Academy." The old man said. "If you will, please follow me, and I'll deliver the final thing that is necessary for you to attend the academy." He stepped outside and I hesitated, glancing toward Mum.
"Go!" She urged, a grin on her face. I followed the Director and gasped as I saw the items he was holding. "Oh my gosh! Already?! Shoot, I haven't decided yet! I get to choose one, right?" My face lit up and I bounced on my toes, boundless energy flowing through me like a river. Clavell nodded. "That's correct. You must choose one of the three, however, and only one." The director said. "Alright, time to come out. Make a good first impression, now."
I gasped as I saw them each one at a time-Fuecoco, the Fire Croc Pokémon. He was chasing his tail, but he stopped abruptly to stare at me. He let out a bit of a trill before continuing to spin around. The next Pokémon, Quaxly, the Duckling Pokémon, came out, his jello-like hair shining in the sunlight. I blinked as he stood proud, staring at me.
Then there was Sprigatito, the Grass Cat Pokemon. I held back a giggle as she popped out of her Pokeball and immediately tripped over her paws, falling face first, just the way I did. I bent down and helped the little cat up, her warm pink eyes staring up at me.
My heart burst as I watched the three of them interact with each other. But I knew I couldn't keep the Director waiting, so... "I'll be taking this one." I stuck my hand out, gently, to let Sprigatito sniff my hand. I gave her a little pet, and she climbed up my arm. Just like me. A little clumsy, but still perfectly capable.
