To Be Human

Chapter Twelve: I don't know if you can hear me...

~Michael~

Somewhere behind him, Michael heard the sound of screams and shouting. He couldn't hear what they were saying. He couldn't move, it was like Michael was frozen in place and all he could do was stare. He kept hoping that if he stared long enough that the image in front of him would change. That his brothers would magically be okay. That his head would not be dripping blood, his skull wouldn't be visible anymore.

Someone shoved him from behind, snapping him out of the initial shock. When he turned around he noticed that Cameron, Nick and Wynn had all disappeared, they must have been the ones that shoved him. The whole restaurant was in hysterics but no one had gotten near the stage yet, most people seemed to be exiting.

Michael got back on the stage and pried Carson out of the animatronics mouth. He knelt down, holding his brother close as tears formed in his eyes. From the corner of his eye Michael saw his parents rushing towards him.

"Michael, what happened!?" His father demanded, pulling him away from Carson. There was so much anger in William's eyes, if looks could kill Michael would have dropped dead.

"I....it was an accident...Henry said...he said it was safe...i-...I'm sorry... I didn't...this wasn't..." Michael said. His voice was wavering and quiet.

An ambulance arrived along with the police. Most of the guests had already dispersed. William had Henry take Elizabeth home while Clara rode to the hospital with CC. Michael and William stayed behind to answer questions.

William did most of the talking, which was probably for the best. Michael didn't trust himself to form full sentences. They ruled the incident an accident but Fredbear's had to shut down for a while. Michael wasn't in trouble for what happened, at least not with the police.

The car ride to the hospital was a silent one. William didn't say a word or even glance at Michael. The silence terrified him. He'd rather be yelled at, hear how angry his father was. But that didn't happen.

When they arrived Clara was sitting in the waiting room with tears falling down her face. Michael watched as his father walked over to his mother and pulled her in for a hug. He thought it was best to stay away from them so he took a seat on the other side of the room. It was empty aside from his family, which was probably for the best.

Michael was still covered in blood. It was all over his hands and clothes and he hadn't yet looked in a mirror but he knew it was on his face too, he could feel it. It was drying now. He watched as the bright red turned to more of a brown. He knew he should try and wash some of it off but he couldn't bring himself to get up.

He didn't know how much time had passed when the doctors finally walked into the room, definitely more than an hour. Everything was so hazy. But when they did, his mum and dad rose from their seats and walked over. He couldn't hear what they were saying and he didn't dare raise his head to look.

Not until his mum knelt in front of him. "Hey sweetie, the doctors said we can go see him now."

See him? Michael looked up, he was hopeful this meant that Carson was okay. Maybe it wasn't as bad as it looked. He probably needed stitches, he would have a badass scar at least. He'd probably be in the hospital for a while but that would be okay, Michael would keep him company. Michael followed his parents down the hall and wondered if CC was awake. He had to tell him how sorry he was. That hurting him wasn't what he was trying to do. CC would understand, he was understanding. He'd forgive him, everything would be okay. Michael would change, he'd be a better brother to Carson. He had to.

But as they walked into the hospital room Michael was filled with an overwhelming amount of guilt not relief. Carson was not awake. His head was bandaged up, especially on the left side where even his eye was covered and there were all sorts of wires attached to him. He looked more like a test tube alien than a person.
