I'm sure I'm dead, it was the only way to explain what was happening in my mind. The cruel shards stabbed and poked in what I thought were the places tat could never be touched. The nook in my mind became a burning fire, my sanction a suffocating oil maze lit with a single match. I was broken of dead I wasn't sure then what seemed like a veil of shadow lifted and I could breathe, the fire slowed and fizzled sparks flying yet never burning. They were peaceful almost, like the aurenflare, they did no harm. Now my nook was back to its glory the rainbow web of thoughts, memories that were guarded with importance. Ruy smiling with me, Umber laughing as I told a joke, Gethen telling me a joke. I was all surreal I felt a hand take mine and with all my effort and all my willpower I squeezed their hand back, a shout of happiness and a chorus of relieved sighs echoed off the bare wall of what I assumed was my room. With all my strength, all my mental reserves in the nook I managed to blast a weak transmission.
'Is anyone there?'
'Yes Sophie, it's Gethen, we need you to open your eyes. Slowly to adjust to the light.'
A weak OK later my eyes were fluttering my long eyelashes batting my cheeks as the dim, yet blinding light of my room brought me to reality."W-who's," my weak voice called stopping to clear my throat. "Who's t-there?"
"Us," Ruy's familiar voice said in the distance. "Me, Gisela and Gethen, Umber too, we're all here for you."
I nodded vocal chords flaring in pain, and I gestured my throat and mimed, drinking with the last of my physical strength. How I managed it, I will never know. But in the end, delicate hands parted my lips, and I gratefully took in the cool yet slightly sweet liquid. After a raspy thank you, J turned my head to the left, seeing Umber and Gethen to my right Ruy and Gisela holding a bottle of youth.
'What happened?' I transmitted to Gethen.
'Let's open a link. Then we can tell you OK?'
I nodded slightly and felt my mind e pant like a light bulb being uncovered by cloth.
'Sophie?' The collective reply came from the other three members standing in the room.
'Nope - that was Gethen, but I'm here too.' I responded.
'Are you ok? You really worried us, Soph.' Ruy asked concern, filling his thoughts.
'I'm fine, I think?' I responded. 'Just tired. What happened anyway?'
'Well, um-' Gisela started but didn't continue. I've never seen her nervous in any way. 'TheBlackSwanbrokeyourmind!'
'Oh hell no...' I started. 'They did what?!'
'Don't get worried, I mean you brought yourself back that takes skill.' Umbers breathy thoughts assured me.
'They still broke my mind!' I exclaimed thoughts, racing a mile a minute. 'Ugh DAMN IT! Just when my life was getting back on track!'
I closed the mental like deciding to speak out loud. Their shocked expressions told me they've never seen me 'curse' so much in one minute."I want to announce I'm back," I said, a determined edge in my voice. "I know they probably don't care, but still."
Ruy snorted. "Don't care, please! They almost started an all-out war because they broke your mind!"
"Oh," was all the sentence I could muster. "Well damn."
Guess I really am a healer.
