To Rest In A Coffin

The owner of the funeral home was 100% sure this was the most color the business had ever seen. This girl was all types of bright colors. It was unnatural in such a place. He looked at her suspiciously. "This is no place for teenage fun, it's a very serious place", the man warned.

To his surprise she only gives a kind smile. "Actually I'm here looking for a coffin."

The owner pauses for a second before shrugging. It was highly unlikely that the girl was the only relative left of a dead soul, but he had seen many unlikely things happen in the face of death. Everyone was slightly uncomfortable walking into a funeral home. Anyone who wasn't would be quite creepy. The owner himself included.

"Well, our cheapest coffins are ones without a finish, usually in pine wood, how about that?" The owner offers, figuring that the girl wouldn't be able to afford much more than that anyway.

To his surprise she shakes her head, all too colorful locks. "I need something dark, in the best wood you can find." He examines this girl again, not quite sure what to make of her.

Hesitantly, the owner offers an alternative. "Well... if you're sure then we have a solid mahogany casket in black finish. It'll cost you several times more though."

"Sold!" The girl grins, once again a gesture completely unsuited for a funeral home. That's when he noticed the way her teeth glinted, all too sharp for a human's teeth.

She pulls out a wad of cash, from the dead only knows where. Those nails were too sharp, and too long. They didn't look like the acrylic that most girls got on their fingers. The opacity was just wrong.

The owner shivered in fear. No, this was definitely a Nevermore student. It was a good thing the owner wasn't about to turn down a good business deal. So with a gulp he accepted the cash, hoping and praying that this wasn't a bad idea.

Entering her shared dorm room, Wednesday was surprised to find silence. The hole in the floor had turned out to be a horrible thing, not only could Yoko and Enid talk through the floor all night, Wednesday also had to listen to Yoko and her roommate's music in addition to Enid's. The school had roped off the area so nobody would fall through, but had trouble finding somebody to restore the floor to match the old floorboards.

In fact, the silence was so complete, even Thing seemed suspiciously absent.

Wednesday inched forward when she spotted it. A coffin so black it reflected the light from the round window. It was perfect. Cold, death related, and black. The color was so on theme.

"So... do you like it? I wanted to find the perfect gift to ask you out on a date with." The creak of the old door behind her signals the entrance of a person that sets Wednesday's veins on fire.

Wednesday whips around, not allowing the smile that threatened to creep onto her face to surface. "It is acceptable." It was more than acceptable, it was downright impressive. It was so unlike Enid, so out of Enid's style. This was the girl who fainted at the sight of decapitated limbs for all she was worth. Yet she had gone to the trouble to give Wednesday such a morbid present.

Face lighting up, Enid squeals. "So you'll come on a date with me???!" She was vibrating in excitement.

"Yes, but only if you stop that, it's getting annoying", Wednesday replied. In fact, she was getting so annoyed it felt like something was flying around all willy nilly in her stomach. A bat, perhaps.

Walking forward, Wednesday runs her fingers over the lid of the coffin. It was truly quite exquisite in quality. In fact, it was mahogany, polished to perfection with a black finish and gold handles. Flipping the heavy lid, Wednesday finds equally as impressive white inner lining.
