Happy new year everyone! I just wanted to touch base super quick before you read this chapter as it contains alcohol withdrawal and provides only a tiny glimpse into the symptoms that may occur with withdrawal. Now, I am no expert on alcohol withdrawal, however I just wanted to make it very clear that I most likely have not provided an accurate description on this, and it is important that the situations my character experiences should not be glamourised in any way, shape or form (as I know that drug and alcohol abuse is almost glamourised in the media). Alcoholism is a very real and serious issue that must be addressed, and the withdrawal symptoms that can occur as a result of this are extremely dangerous. While my character does not receive medical attention, just know that in most cases, medical attention is necessary to aid a person in surviving withdrawal from alcohol. That is all!! I hope you enjoy the chapter.

Chapter 10: withdrawal

Her fingernails, that were growing thin and brittle due to the constant use of acrylic nails, tapped anxiously against the circular wooden table beside the kitchen in Bucky's apartment. A small glass of water had been placed beside her tapping fingers, something she had neither requested or gotten herself, but something that Bucky insisted she drink out of the moment they walked through the door. She needed to stay hydrated apparently, but water was the last thing she wanted to drink. She wished she raided the kitchen cupboards or Darcy's bedroom to steal a drink, or anything that could give her a buzz, if only she had not gotten so distracted with that damn teddy bear.

Her sore eyes moved from the glass of water that sat in front of her, half-empty, to the floor-to-ceiling window at the end of his apartment that overlooked the shiny lights of the city and the buildings that surrounded them. Perhaps it was the only thing in this small apartment that reminded her of her childhood. Being raised in a towers, mansions and other luxurious structures, there were many floor-to-ceiling windows that gave her extravagant views that most could only wish to see in their short lifetime. However, the only view she often longed for that reminded her of her time spent with her father, had been the large window overlooking the entire city.

Tony had a bad habit of getting home late at night during his playboy era, and Estella would rarely go to sleep after her nanny for the night tucked her in. She would wait up for him, her tired eyes widening every few minutes as she anxiously watched the kitten clock beside her bed tick ever so slowly. He would eventually come home, and if she had not passed out from exhaustion, she would be happily tucked in by her dad who would scold her for staying up so late, though the young girl did not care. But on one particular night, as Tony got home from one of the events he had to attend, he entered his daughter's room to find a very scared little girl with tears rolling down her cheeks. She had a nightmare, and her daddy had not been there to comfort her when she woke.

Feeling incredibly guilty, her father scooped her up into his arms and took her to the large window in the living room. He wrapped her up in a dressing gown as he sat himself down on the ground, pulling her into his lap and cradling her. The bright lights and the ever so faint sound of cars honking had been something that always calmed him when he had nightmares, and that was all he wanted. His daughter to feel safe and calm, no anxiety ever. He told her as many princess and unicorn stories he could possibly tell, as a very drowsy Estella stared out at the twinkling lights. They were almost like her stars.
