"Why are you telling ME you burned down your house." Yashiro had a look of confusion on her face.
"Don't worry! I already called the fire department! I was just gonna ask you something!"
Yashiro couldn't act like she didn't care. Amane was her only freind. Aoi and Akane moved to California after graduation. She missed her old friends and how blissfully blind she was back then.
Amane took a deep breath and began to speak. "Will you let me crash at your place until I get on my feet?" Yashiro could feel Amane's nervousness from across the phone line.
"Sure, get ready to sleep on the couch, I live in a one bedroom apartment." Yashiro readied a small pillow and throw blanket and layed them on the couch.
It was less than 20 minutes until Amane was waiting at the door, with a small pink bunny plushy and a suitcase of clothes.
Amane
"Welcome, I guess" Yashiro was sitting on the couch, watching the anime Amane showed her.
"Oh, this show." Amane's face fell from an excited grin, to a bummed mug.
Amane wished he hadn't shown her this anime. Yes, she did like it, but somehow this made Amane feel angry and tense.
"Thanks for showing me this anime, Amane." Yashiro flashed a fake smile that Amane could easily see through.
What Amane didn't think through, was that his mother and brother came to his house every month. How was he going to explain that to his brother, he could imagine the fanfare.
"Wanna watch something different? You look not that happy." Yashiro paused the show and looked at Amane expectantly.
"Uh- yeah. Let's watch something different." Amane sat down on the couch with Yashiro.
"Do you have any suggestions?" Yashiro opened the TV to Netflix.
"I dunno? We could watch Stranger things. Maybe?"
"I guess so?" Yashiro turned on the TV and got up to wash dishes.
By the time she finished, the time was late, and they both had work tomorrow.
Yashiro
"Let's go to bed, Amane. I'll see you in the morning." Yashiro sat the remote on the coffee table and retired to her room.
She knew she couldn't be left with her thoughts for too long. Yet she learned no lesson. Her mother just got diagnosed with dementia. And her attendant leaves every other weekend for a break. She knew she couldn't trust Amane with her house for two days.
Why was he being so nice to her anyway. He can't act like a happy person, who had a happy childhood and a perfect, happy family forever. She couldn't get why he had that calming charm anyway. Like a warm fire, or field of lavender.
These thoughts made her overwhelmed. Before she knew it, tears were rolling down her face. At this point, she didn't care who or what saw her. She thought of the gun she had tucked under her bed.
One of her uncles got it for her as a housewarming present. In reality, none of her family knows about her depression. If she shot herself right now, would anyone miss her? Was Amane's kindness just a facade to get a promotion? Would he miss her? More than she would miss him?
Amane
Amane couldn't help but listen in on Yashiro's sobbing. He could try a trick that his brother, Tsukasa liked. But Yashiro wasn't like Tsukasa at all. He was more like an unhinged mad man, his feelings would change at any second, while, Yashiro was like a stoic statue. Her feelings never changed. He only saw her ACTUALLY smile, once.
One of his tricks for Tsukasa worked last time. Would that work this time? He decided that it would, and if it didn't, it wouldn't matter that much.
He took a deep breath and grabbed his stuffed bunny. He walked in Yashiro's room and slipped under the covers. He didn't need to cuddle her or anything, but the simple thought of a another human, another warm body, close to you, can calm you pretty quickly.
Yashiro had no reaction. Infact, she had not reaction at all.
Yashiro's cries became quiet and soft. Until she fully fell asleep.
Yashiro
Yashiro woke up how she normally did. She groaned and reached to the other side of her bed.
She felt another person in her bed. He had choppy hair and beautiful amber eyes.
"AMANE!?!?" Yashiro's face was as red as a tomato.
