Christa always denied that she was a "goddess" or an "angel". Yet, even she could understand what they meant. Because honestly, if they rated soldiers based on their looks, she'd be the 10 amongst the others, who easily ranked as threes.
She was always so kind and humble. People loved her and she loved her comrades. Everyone always talked about how whoever ended up with Christa would be the luckiest person alive. They'd be the luckiest person alive to fall in love with a perfect, fake identity. She knew that. She was living a lie, even if her feelings for some were genuine.
Take her best (not to mention first) friend, Ymir, for example. Broad, dark, and sexy. Sure, dating was looked down upon in the military, but she was a young kid! Who could blame her for wanting love? Love, something she never experienced...oh, well. Besides, it's not like she and Ymir WERE dating. They were just close friends...yeah, that's it. Surely. They were just wrongly perceived by the others.
The more...intense side of the relationship was kept secret, though everyone could usually see that there was something more, even if it was denied by them. Them as in Christa. Ymir would always flirt with the small blonde. During the day, they'd spend the day training and talking in small intervals. Then, they'd go have a walk around the camp before dinner. After dinner, they'd go to their shared dorm and continue on. Ymir played well and fiercely, and she plucked Christa's strings at night, where she'd scream all the way to G. The major and minor, making music at night.
Now, surely, this was just what girl friends would do, right? Christa was sure of it. Even if she was uncomfortable with Ymir touching her, she couldn't deny that she was happy to have found someone to talk to. She just felt legit. Ymir cared for her so much. "I think this girl is different," Christa would tell herself.
One day, the two were in their dorm room, having decided to skip out on their walk that night. Ymir was combing her fingers through Christa's long, soft hair. "Hey, Christa, you know we're really close now. It's almost like we have a connection. That's how strong our chemistry is," Ymir said. "You really are an angel from above, huh? You're the fairest of the fair. You should really start believing you're worth all the things they say."
Christa would be lying if she immediately understood Ymir's use of the word "connection". Still, she smiled humbly, blushing. Ymir's voice was husky and flirtatious. It felt extremely intense this time...intense and passionate.
Playtime's over...
She couldn't believe Ymir! How could she leave her?! After everything they'd built, she was gone. And it felt like Ymir had no hesitation...no second thought about leaving her with the traitors of Paradis. Without her, she lost any remaining identity she thought she had as 'Christa'. She was lost without her. Now, she was bitter about what people would call her back when she was in the cadet corps. They always said how lucky whoever married HER was, not anything SHE wanted.
However, during that time, she met another who was after her love, Reiner Braun.
