Father's Enemy {A Captain America's Daughter fanfic}

Chapter Twenty-Four

"Sir, there seems to be some activity going on in the center if town."

"Where at specifically?" Steve asked.

"The town hall," he answered.

"I'm heading there. If I don't return in twenty minutes send some men in," he ordered.

"Yes, Sir!" Saluted the soldier.

Catalina was down and the blond girl didn't seem in any condition to help him so Johann was on his own. He really wished his gun would hurry up and recharge. It didn't used to have to but since he had lost the tesseract he was doing everything he could to conserve it's energy.

It was obvious normal weapons would do nothing against this creature. Johann guessed that it most likely had a healing factor much like himself, Wolverine, and Deadpool. He had heard that Captain America had had a healing factor as well. Caty seemed to.....he trailed off in his thinking. His lapse of concentration cost him. The mutant growled like an animal and locked his jaws onto Johann's arm. Johann tried vainly to shake him loose. He felt the bone snap as his arm began to be crushed in the mutants horrendous jaws.

"Hey! You!"

Johann turned towards the source of the shouting. Johann nearly lost his balance at the sight of him. A shield flew toward Johann's assailant. The mutant was knocked loose of Johann's arm and flew towards the machine. Then bad turned to worse. The other mutants had set the building on fire. Flames leapt towards he ceiling. They must have done something to help it spread because it was moving to fast not to mention snow covered the roof.

"Are you alright, Sir?" Steve said beginning to approach. Johann took a step back. "It's alright, Sir, we are the good guys."

"Captain, watch out!" Yelled a soldier from the doorway. Steve looked to see the mutant standing up. Instead of attacking him, however, he threw himself into the machine. Johann's eyes widened. He ran and dragged Catalina away from the machine. It exploded spraying metal and debris everywhere. Johann threw himself over Catalina and shielded her with his own body.

Catalina was vaguely aware of someone pulling her and then a loud noise. Something was wrong. Why couldn't she pull herself out of this stupor? She was conscious but she wasn't at the same time.

Come on. Come on. Pull yourself out of this Caty! She thought to herself.

Steve meanwhile had used his shield and body to protect the blond girl. He looked up. The roof was going to collapse any minute. He needed to get the girl and two strangers out of here.

"Private, take the girl and get her out of here!"

The private nodded and ran over. He picked her up and ran out of the fiery inferno.

"Catalina, wake up," Johann whispered to her.

I'm trying! She thought. This made Johann start. He had heard her clearly but she hadn't said anything. Caty fought with all her might to wake up.

Steve yelled as a beam began to fall towards the Johann and Catalina . Johann looked up and closed his eyes waiting for it to fall.

Steve's jaw dropped. The beam had stopped. It was just floating in the air. Johann opened his eyes. He too looked up on shock. He then looked down.

"I don't know how I'm doing this," Caty said. "But I can't hold it for much longer."

Johann stood and picked her up as best he could with only one arm. There was no way he was staying around to let Shield catch him.

"Wait," Steve said as he began to run towards the exit. Caty looked over and gasped. Her surprise caused her to drop the beam. Before them was her father! She couldn't believe it. She wanted to run and throw herself into her daddy's arms but something held her back. She looked up at Johann. She couldn't see his face but she knew this was very hard for him. His arm was broken and mangled but so was his heart.

"Run! Johann!" She yelled before she could change her mind. Johann obeyed and ran. He ran past the village and the Shield guards. Away from her father and the only life he had known before this. He ran through the forest and ran until he could run no more. He carefully set Caty down inside a small opening on a cliff side and collapsed from exhaustion.
