Johann reached for her hand but she fell before he could reach her. He felt a moment of panic as she fell. He hadn't realized how much he cared about her. He watched her accelerate into the shadows but he didn't hear her land. He peered down but couldn't catch a glimpse of her. He swung down over the edge careful not to break it more and let himself drop. He twisted and landed going straight into a roll.
"Fancy moves there," said a female voice.
"Catalina! Don't ever scare me like that again," he said quietly but sharply.
"Aww were you worried," he couldn't see her face but he could almost imagine her saying that with a wink. He rolled his eyes and looked towards the large machine.
"Why are there no guards?" He asked.
"Good question."
"If my guards had done this at Hydra I would have skinned them alive."
Caty looked at him, "literally of metaphorically?"
"I'll let you decide."
Caty shook her head and smiled. She got up and ran forward. Her action startled Johann and he grabbed her forearm in an attempt to stop her. She shook his arm loose and ran to the nearest hiding spot. It was underneath a hastily built catwalk around the machine. She jumped and managed to grab the railing. She swung forward to gain momentum and then flipped backward over the rail and onto the catwalk. She stopped and looked towards Johann's hiding place and motioned him forward. He shook his head and followed copying her exact movements.
"Don't do that again," he said gripping her arm. She was about to respond when she heard talking. She and Johann immediately dropped as low to the catwalk as possible without totally loosing all sight of the lower level.
"Hey! Look what a fine specimen I found," shouted a voice.
"Bring her here!"
Into Caty and Johann's view came a vulgar mutant. His veins coursed with a black fluid. He was dragging a girl behind him. She looked about sixteen and she had long blond hair with green eyes. That wasn't normal for Germans was it?
"Wow! She is a beauty! Hey sweetheart," said a second mutant coming into view. "I think you and I should get some private time before your processed."
The girl screamed and scratched the mutant's face. He laughed and began to ogle her.
"Make sure I get a turn," said the first one. Caty's blood boiled. She turned to Johann to ask about their next move but he wasn't there. She looks hurriedly around but she didn't see him. Had he abandoned her?
"Come along, girl," she heard the second one say. She turned and watched as he grabbed her and tried to drag her to a corner. To her shock the first one yelped and evaporated. The second one jumped with surprise and looked around. Out of the shadows jumped Johann. The mutant pushed the girl in front of him.
"Come closer and I'll kill her," he yelled. Johann stood there carefully. Caty realized she should probably jump in so she literally jumped in. She flew through the air and landed squarely in between the mutants shoulder blades. She felt his spine crack and he fell writhing in pain. Caty sat on his back furthering his pain and whipped her dagger towards his neck.
"Wait," Johann said holding up a hand.
Caty nodded and then said to her prisoner. "Information. Now!"
"No," he said. To her surprise she felt his spine crack back into place.
"That's not possible," she said before he threw her off.
Johann jumped at him. He landed a punch on the mutants face but the mutant was unphased. It swung and punched Johann in the stomach. Johann recovered and feinted an attack and then swung the opposite direction kicking up and hitting it's back. He was aiming where Caty had landed but he missed slightly. The mutant grabbed Johann's foot and swung him up like a rag doll. He brought him down hard and Johann yelled. Johann scrambled to his feet and continued to duel with the empowered mutant. Caty had recovered by now and was trying to help the girl up. The girl was so frightened she refused to move.
"You have to move now if you want to survive this," Caty said to her.
The girl still refused to move and Caty resigned herself to standing in front of her and protect her if the fighting came this way. The mutant had another idea though. He jumped in Caty's direction. She swung up and hit him hard in the stomach. He flew to the side. She ran towards him and kicked him again. He grabbed her wrist and twisted hard. She tried not to yell for fear of alerting any other guards. He was about to kick her but they all stopped short at the sound of guns. There was also sounds of fighting and yelling.
"Shield!" Yelled the mutant.
Caty was elated at the thought of seeing them again. Then she realized she needed to make sure Johann got away safely. The mutant took advantage of the distraction. He grabbed Caty and bashed her head against the metal machinery. She yelled and everything got fuzzy. She fought the dizziness with all her might. She could hear Johann engaging the mutant again but she couldn't focus. The sounds of fighting grew closer and the dizziness grew harder to fight.
