"Hurry and clean this place up" were the order left by Elizabeth, before they all strode out of the room. "Now that they are gone, I can relax and focus on cleaning the intentional mess that was left by my siblings". I tossed the leftovers in the trash, knowing that if Elizabeth found out I had anything to eat it would be hell.

I hurried to clean the kitchen and heat something for Helix to eat as he normally wakes after everyone. Gladly, he was feeling well enough to feed himself today, while I waited for him to finish his breakfast, I ensured to clean up his room and get the bathroom ready so he can have a bath. His full time, after doing all that, I left him to his devices and started my other daily task of cleaning the entire house, except the places I am forbidden from entering, such as Jonathan Study, and Savanha.

Brandon and the parents' bedroom along with Elizabeth's sitting room. I am able to enter Helix's room as mentioned I am his full-time caretaker. Humans that have a terminal illness are normally killed but because of the relations between Elizabeth and Jonathan, they get the benefit to keep Helix alive and to be able to live his life until he dies.

Throughout the day, I can mostly get peace and quiet, otherwise from tending to Helix. Jonathan works and Elizabeth goes about her business with some other females in our community and Savanha and Brandon go to school.

I also enjoy this time of day as I don't have to worry while cleaning the house. Unlike Brandon and Savanha, I and Helix are home-schooled, at the age of 17, I am just wrapping up a school that I should have already been through with, but because I had to get lesser time for school due to all the work I do.

I can only get to do schoolwork after I have finished my task as if it is some form of price, clean and do everything, then I can enjoy school. I occasionally have to leave the house and go to the school compound as there are exams that require us to be face-to-face.

If it was not for such cases, I would be home, 98% of the time. At around midday, I was through with everything I had to do, Helix had eaten lunch and was trying to go through his assigned work so I headed to the small library that was in the house, located near the main sitting room. I started my studies, I can on learn as much as my home tutor teaches and as much as the books that my adoptive mother purchased.

A lot of things I am unaware of and most of it is what is taught in regular school, I could get the information from Jonathan as we are currently doing the same classes, but I would rather stick my hands in a fire than do that. I honestly hate this family; at times I wish I was not given up for adoption. I was told that my parents died at the time of my birth and that I have no living family member or relative.

And I have always found that to be weird, a woman can die in the process of giving birth but how the hell does my dad die too and what kind of bad luck is it that I have no grandparents, uncles, or aunts?

The only thing that I can remember them by is my original name, Zayne Alver Zedric, it was said to be a name given by my mother. It seems that life just has no good turn of events for me.

I live in an environment where it's like living with werewolves because I am treated like a slave. They treat me like shit, then expect me to be grateful because I was given a worn-out mattress and a roof over my head.

"Zayne get in here now" Jonathan called startling me from my thoughts. Oh what did I do now, I asked myself, I can't go another week without food or worse a beating. I hurried to tidy up the area I was using before making my way downstairs. "Yes Sir" I answered upon reaching where he was located. I stood trying to make myself seem smaller while ensuring that I did not make eye contact.

"When was the last time I did your runes," he asked, walking up to me, making me now less than an arm stretch away." I think it was 3 months ago, sir" I stuttered. My palms started sweating and my heartbeat picked up, as I didn't comfortable with him being this close to me. It wouldn't be the first time he used this question of runes to distract me and knock me out. During those times, I can never remember what happened, I wake up without pain or sometimes I feel as if I have been squashed by a train.
