Tati POV
After coming out the bathroom from my morning shower I heard old tunes playing. My aunt was either down their cleaning or cooking. I prayed for the second option as I went downstairs.
The smell of bacon and eggs reached my nose making me let out a sigh in content.
"Good morning Auntie." I said while going and giving her a peck on the cheek. "Morning baby. Sit down imma make your plate while we wait on your brother." She said while pointing with the spatula towards the dining room.
I followed her instructions and sat down in the same seat I've been sitting in for years now. Soon my brother Malik came from the basement which used to be his room."
"It smell good in here auntie what's the occasion?" He asked while giving her a peck on the cheek making her suck her teeth. "Boy! Just go sit and wait for your plate." She playfully hit him while he backed away.
"Hey turd." He said to me while flicking my forehead with his left hand. "You always putting your hands on somebody. Damn, you needa take yo ass home." I mumbled the last part but he still heard me.
"You said what? I couldn't hear you." He said while putting me in a headlock. I tried to get out of his hold and ended up tipping over my chair making us both fall.
"Aye get up off that floor horse playing! Come eat." My aunt said while putting our plates down. He finally let go of me while laughing and i pushed him while we both got off the floor.
We both sat down and my aunt prayed over the food before we all started digging in. "Alright I'm glad we're all sitting down together as a family. There's something I want to discuss." She started while placing her fork down.
Me and Lik stayed quiet waiting for her to speak again. "Y'all know I would never put y'all in any danger and would never bring anyone around y'all if I felt they weren't right but.. y'all getting older now so it's time I put everything on the table." She said before pausing again.
"What's going on Auntie?" I said while furrowing my eyebrows.
"I've been seeing Michael Bernes from the church for about a year and a half now. I wanted to tell you all but I wasn't sure if y'all were ready for this big change especially after your mother..." she spoke while looking between both of us.
"Well auntie we understand your human and want love just as much as everybody else so why you making it seem like this is bad news?" Lik asked while laughing a little.
"The thing is, He wants me to go with him to Europe for the summer...and I told him yes." She added making me look over at Lik.
"So... your gonna be gone the whole summer?" I asked while placing my fork down. She nodded her head.
"Are we still gonna be able to talk with you?" Malik asked while eating a piece of bacon.
"Of course I'll make sure to stay in touch as much as I can. Listen, I know how hard it is for y'all to adapt to change because of everything and I understand y'all might not like this but, when I took over custody for y'all after my sister passed, I told myself I'd be better for not only y'all but myself. I said I would find ways to keep myself uplifted and I've never been happier then with you all and Michael." She said as tears brimmed her eyes.
I looked away. I hated seeing her cry. "Well we damn sho ain't gone stop you auntie but at some point you need to bring Mr.Bernes over here so I can get a proper introduction." Malik said while putting emphasis on "proper introduction."
"Aht aht boy you ain't finna scare my man!" She said as we all laughed.
"Im glad your happy auntie." I said while giving her a warm smile which she returned.
"So Mani staying with nana and papa longer then planned?"
"Yeah I made sure to tell them to bring her over so y'all can still see her but I just ain't wanna leave all the responsibility on y'all."
I nodded my head. "When you leaving?" Malik asked.
"Tomorrow morning at 6."
We continued eating and talking about her and Michael. He sounded like a pretty good guy from what she was saying. I just hope he doesn't break her...
