Alex's POV: The next period I had that cute new boy in my class, but neither of my friends. He sat in the back with his newfound friends. I avoided eye contact with him for the entire period, out of principle or fear or something else entirely I'm not sure.
After that I had a free period, and thankfully Carter and Jordan did too. We went to the library and pretended to read, but actually just talked the whole time. I mean I like reading, but it was just this one time. Honestly, it was really fun.
Next was Pre-Cal. Now let me make this perfectly clear. I hate math with a burning fiery passion. The teacher was surprisingly really nice though. I wish she would switch places with my mean history teacher and then I'd get teachers matched with my subject preferences.
After school we met at Carter's car. He took me home first as my house is closest and then took Jordan and himself home.
When I entered my house, I yelled, "I'm home" to see if my parents were currently in the house.
I heard a loud, "Hello, honey!" and I knew my mom was home.
As I walked into the living room, my mom said,"Do you have any homework, Sweetheart? We have to go do something if you don't."
"No, of course not mom. Our teachers aren't cruel enough to give us that torture on the first day. What have we got to do?" I said laughing a bit.
"That's good. Your father informed me that a new family moved into the Martin house. You know how busy I am, and being so tired when I get home just makes me so oblivious, so of course I didn't notice."
I nodded remembering the Martin's. They had moved out a few months ago following the hospitalization of Mr Martin's sister.
My mother continued, "Being the person I am, I would like to welcome them to the neighborhood. I was baking brownies and I've decided to bring them some. I just need you to dress nicely and we can walk right over." she said.
"Oh. Okay mom. I'll be quick." I replied as I grabbed a brownie that was still gooey with warmth.
I ran upstairs because, well, I had told my mother that I would be quick. The thing is that it's going to be hard because I own very few dresses, and they're gonna be hard to find because I have a large walk in closet full of unnecessary clothing. I mean, what do you expect? I do go to a private school. We're well off, okay? I'm not bragging I swear. I donate to charity and I do actual chores and services for any money I get.
After looking for far too long, I found an acceptable dress. It was a dark burgundy color, knee length dress with a high neck and long sleeves that would make me more comfortable meeting our new neighbors. I pair it with some black, heeled ankle boots. I then let my hair down and tamed the curls that I had been cursed with. I touched up what little makeup I had been wearing and applied a tinted lipgloss.
I walked downstairs after brushing my teeth and reapplying the lipgloss because I kinda forgot that you can't brush your teeth without ruining your lips. I waited patiently for my mom to be ready.
She came down and started telling me how pretty I was. I practically had to pry her off of me because she was hugging me way too tightly.
We soon proceeded to walk over to our new neighbor's house and rang the doorbell. After the last chime the door opened and revealed a slightly short but sturdy built woman. She looked about my moms age.
My mom said "Hi! My name is Melanie and this is my daughter Alexis. We're your neighbors and we thought we'd welcome you."
"Hi, my mom already...uh. introduced me, but I prefer Alex to Alexis" I said shooting my mom a death glare. I was quite happy with the fact that I barely stumbled on my words.
