As you looked at your family photo, you couldn't help but feel a sense of happiness and contentment. Your life had moved on since the days when you were with Stephen, and you were happy with the new path that you had chosen.
You had met someone new, someone who loved and supported you and your child, and you were beginning to build a beautiful life together. You had managed to move on from the heartache and uncertainty of the past and had found a new source of happiness.
But as much as you loved your new partner, there were times that you couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing. It wasn't that you had feelings for Stephen still, but you couldn't help but wonder what would've happened if he had decided to stay and be a father to your child.
One day, as you were watching your child play in the park, you saw a glimpse of something in the distance. As the figure got closer, you realised that it was Stephen.
He looked older and more tired than you remembered, but his eyes were still the same as they were when he left you two at the hospital -- filled with remorse and possibly regret.
"I know that I completely messed up... but I want to make this right. Can we talk, please?"
As you listened to Stephen recount his inner thoughts and feelings, you realised that he was nowhere near ready to be a father when your child was born. He was too hyper-focused on maintaining his Sorcerer Supreme duties and protecting the multiverse. Your child would've only disrupted that.
But as much as you wanted to believe that Stephen had changed, you couldn't shake the feeling that it was too late. You had finally moved on, and you couldn't go back to the past. It wasn't healthy.
With tears streaming down your face, you told Stephen that you couldn't be with him -- that you had moved on. That you had found happiness and love with someone else and that you wouldn't let him jeopardise that.
But before you grabbed your child and began your journey home, you turned back to him.
"Just because we have no future together, Stephen, does not mean that you can't have one with her." You took a deep breath, "She knows all about her Avenger dad." With that, you grabbed your daughter and began your journey home.
As you walked away from Stephen, you knew that you had made the right decision in refusing to rekindle your relationship. But deep down, you hoped that he would accept your olive branch to have some sort of relationship with your daughter.
