***Darcy’s P.O.V.***

I was awake before my alarm went and I can tell you, that’s something for me. Usually, I don’t wake up till twelve and then I take my time to get out of bed, say around two I made it too the bedroom door. I usually sleep till twice the time it was now (you do the math), but then again: this was a special day. Today was the last day we could do it.

Something we had postponed the entire summer.

I started thinking of ways to get Audrey out of her bed and running before the clock struck nine AND without breakfast. Before I made it to the door, Mom called me and Audrey. I went downstairs and saw her in the kitchen leaning against the island counter with a cup of steaming tea in her hands.

“Hey Darcy, good morning. Where is your sister?” she asked.

“Bed?” I suggested.

Then she spoke my four favorite words: “Go wake her up. Then come back down here, I have to talk to you two about something.”

I got curious, but was too excited to wake up Audrey to question it. I raced back up the stairs and through the hall. As I sprinted past the mirror in the hallway, I backed up and admired myself in it. I looked good, gorgeous even, in these purple snowman PJ’s.

In the next second, I continued racing through the hall and was knocking Audrey’s door down. I heard a thud and pushed the door open immediately. Hmm, she hadn’t barricaded it. The door slammed against the wall. A breeze lingered on my face as I watched, mouth wide-open. Her bed was empty …

The past few weeks we had found a pattern in her transformations. Every week on a random day she would change into an animal. (Trust me, I screamed when she turned up as a squirrel and nibbled on my toes.) She stayed like that until the next sunset and then she changed back. I was always with her that day to comfort her, because some of those days were just plain frightening.

For example, there was once. She had changed into a field mouse. (She was adorable in a creepy mousiest way!) And we were in this open field, right? Suddenly, she starts panicking and all and then I see this HUGE hawk swooping down. I understood it was hungry and saw her as a snack. Though I wanted to see what he would look like when she changed, I had a feeling that she wouldn’t at all if she was eaten. So I dived forwards and picked her up and put her in my pocket.

So yeah, you get my worries. Anyways, I feared the worst and ran to the window, thinking No! No! Not now! Not today! As I looked over the damp lawn, different emotions filled me, the dominating one was anger and the scared thoughts were replaced by new, angry ones. How could she leave? I mean, she knew it was going to happen someday, but she has got to have timing t change today! I stood there, at the open window for I don’t know how long, staring at the mist that hung over the tree tops, wondering here my sister had gone, what she was and how she was.

A whirling sound caused me to break out of my concentration, whipping my head around. Immediately, I was hit by something soft and fluffy and it blocked out all the light. The force of it hitting me slapped my head back and against the wall. I wished I hadn’t turned around, because I would have preferred being hit in the back of my head. Well, if I get to chose how to get hit, I’m picking C. no of the above.

As it fell, I saw it. Her… Audrey was wrapped in her sheets with two pillows at her feet, one on her bed and one in her hand. The last one was now lying at my feet. Her eyes were instead of their normal forest green, a dark, murderous and sleepy green.
