Alessa's Purpose

On the way back to the Order Facility, Vergil wanted to know more about Alessa's abilities and Project A. He isn't a stranger to a human possessing demonic abilities since his temporary partnership with Arkham. But Alessa was obviously different and for once he couldn't figure it out.

As if Nero read his mind, he decided to be the first to ask, "I don't mean to pry but your abilities are something else. What exactly was Project A and why did you willingly go through with it?"

Alessa smiled, "I figured one of you would ask sooner or later. It's been years since it happened but it has gotten easier to talk about it."

"I was 21 and in college at the time. I never really thought I had psychic abilities until I would find myself going into Limbo. That is when I discovered that demons walked among us. Since I had no control over my abilities at the time, I would always randomly appear in Limbo. Demons would chase me around constantly and I hated it. One day, I happened to meet Kat while in Limbo. She saved me and explained what exactly was going on and that her boss could help.

I eventually met Vergil, who was very kind and took me in. At the time, The Order was in the beginning stages and he needed more support. Since I had Martial Arts capabilities, I volunteered to help start a militia of demon hunters. From there, he trained me on how to fight the lower order of demons. That's when I eventually found out he was a Nephilim.

Which was also how I found out about Dante. Vergil is usually a very private person but working with him brought us very close and —"

"So you were lovers then?" The other Vergil asked.

Alessa chuckled, "Nothing like that, he became like a brother to me. He is in love with Kat but he has yet to confess. Kat is psychic and she already knows but she wants to hear it from him."

Nero rolled his eyes, "Mushiness aside, what else happened?"

"We eventually tracked Dante and I did not expect him to be the punk version of Vergil. They have the same face but their style is what really helps anyone tell them apart. He was such a jerk at the beginning but after a little convincing he joined us. He was also very charming too."

" I have a feeling I know where this is going," Nero said, scratching the back of his head.

Alessa's expression saddened, "You are correct. I fell In love with Dante. If I knew all the pain I would suffer because of him then I would have never got involved.

Vergil and Neros's expressions were now serious.

"After defeating Mundus, Dante wanted the power to control everyone. He basically wanted to take over Mundus's position and it angered all of us, Vergil especially. We all went through hell just trying to take him down. Vergil did not want us to be exposed to any more danger. We almost lost Kat when Mundus kidnapped her."

"That is understandable." Vergil says.

"Yeah, put an end completely but I guess Dante wasn't having it." Nero chimed in.

"Dante said Vergil was weak for not wanting the power. That's when he pointed one of his guns to Kat to shoot her. I jumped in front of her to take the hit and I lost a lot of blood. I never saw Vergil as angry as I did that day, he severely injured Dante. Dante ended up getting away when Vergil was tending to me."

Nero balled his fist, "That son of a bitch. I'm so sorry, Alessa."

Vergil's signature hard glare was plastered on his face, " This Vergil has a lot of restraint but I am sure Dante learned his lesson about attacking loved ones."

"I guess Dante never considered me as a loved one. Just someone to take to bed."

"That son of a bitch has another thing coming."Nero growled.

Vergil nodded in agreement and wanted Alessa to continue.

"To end this story, Vergil managed to get me back to the lab. I knew he was working on the prototypes for Project A. He initially wanted to have trials to see if he needed to make adjustments. He wanted to be transparent with everyone here since Mundus was being deceitful for so long. He had a plan to compensate the participant as well. But with limited time, he had no time to think of the risks and it was a 50/50 chance.. Thanks to him, I am still here."

"For someone who has suffered, you are very strong. I don't meet as many humans that possess such resilience and perseverance."

Alessa gives Vergil a sad smile, "Coming from you, that means a lot. The other Dante told us your story and I can say the same."

Nero puts a reassuring hand on her shoulder, "That old man isn't anything like this Dante. He's more human than anything and he really cares for the people around him."

Alessa's expression softens, "I guess I owe him an apology then. I literally took off after he said his name is Dante."

"With an explanation, my brother will understand. Out of the both of us, he is very in touch with his emotions. I am certain that he has mentioned that."
