Horse hooves knocking on gravel and snow alerted my attention. Well more like woke me up. Tina had yet to come to wake me - even thought it was well past noon. I guess she knew I needed it. The engagement ball was the night before last, and yet my thoughts were still spiralling.

Neither William nor my parents had thought to contact me, after what happened I thought that they might explain more to me, that they could ease my mind, answer my questions. But no, they left early and didn't even say their farewells.

Nikolai hadn't informed me about any guests coming, but maybe it's my parents. I quickly got up and fixed my appearance, taming my hair and getting changed. Making my way out of my room and through the halls voices could be heard. These weren't the voices of maids, but they seems awfully familiar. There are two distinct voices, that of a male and that of a female. They continue their conversation as I make my way further towards the castle doors. They had been left open, letting all the cold air in - much to my displeasure.

Speeding my pace, I hastily walk over to the wooden entrance. My heels make an obnoxiously loud clicking sound every step I take. And when I finally reach my destination, in amongst the white, coated courtyard stood two people.

What?

Nikolai P.O.V

"Nikolai come on, you need to come out of your room man, there's a carriage in the courtyard." Benedict's voice mumbled through the thick door.

There was an elongated silence before I could process his words, "Okay yeah fine, give me a few minutes."

I had been stuck in my room the past day or two, caught up with paperwork and planning for the wedding coming up far too soon. I guess I didn't even notice how long I was actually in here. But that is beside the point, I need to greet whomever was outside. So, I quickly went to find my fabric mask, running my hand thought my hair to attempt to calm it down.

After successfully making myself look presentable, I make my way outside of my cold room into the warm corridor. The warm air is comforting, pulling my init it like a warm hug. The sound of bustling maids running around, and Matteo yelling at Ben to stop stealing food from the lunch trays before they were fully done filled my ears. As much as those two drive me crazy, they never fail to bring a smile to my face.

Looking out the large, colourful stain glass window, I notice a very familiar carriage waiting outside; sitting patiently in the white blanket of snow. I almost do a double take.

They weren't supposed to be back for another few days.

Realising who this carriage belongs to, I pick up my pace and briskly walk to the front entrance. When Benedict said that there was someone here, my parents were the last people I expected. Why exactly were they back so early?

"Mum? Dad?" I question. As if to almost wonder if it's actually them.

"Nikolai!"
"Son!"

Their two voices clash, interrupting one another. But nevertheless they both sounded exited to see me, as I was too excited to see them. Letting out a breath, and letting another smile form into my lips, I run over to hug them.

I may have only been away from them for just under two weeks, I still missed them. And that would never change. I loved them both so much. They were always there for me, never doubting anything I said, or questioning why I was acting a certain way. The both of them have always understood me, and have always treated me the best they could. Of course they did the same for Cammile, loving her the same they did me.

"Why are you back so early?" I question, releasing myself from the embrace.

"We overestimated how much we actually had to do, so really we just finished all the business early," my father told me, smiling at me and looking at my mother.

All I did was nod and smile back, I'm glad they would be here. Planning everything has been a nightmare, and I'm sure my dad wouldn't mind giving me a hand with paper work. After talking a few minutes more, the cold started getting to me. I could feel my nose turning more and more red, so I decided it was best if we head inside the security and comfort of the warm castle.
