"Are we good now? Like we don't hate each other?" I ask him, voice peaking at the end of my words.

"I guess we are," he answers. I can tell he's slightly smiling by the way he speaks.

As he spoke, I found myself instinctively smiling and nodding in agreement. I turned my attention back to the stove, where we were both busy cooking up a delicious breakfast of fluffy pancakes. The sizzle of batter hitting the hot surface filled the air with a mouthwatering aroma, making my stomach growl in anticipation.

"Did you really sleep with that mask on? Is it not uncomfortable?" I ask out of curiosity.

Yes, we went to sleep in the same bed but I went to sleep before him, and woke up after. What a coincidence. The bed itself was absolutely massive, almost comically so. Even with both of us in it, there was still plenty of space to stretch out and move around without bumping into each other.

"No," he tells me simply.

More detail would be appreciated, but of course he seems to not care.

I hum and flip the last pancake, patting it softly. Nikolai is behind me plating the rest, adding various toppings of fruit, syrups and cream. It does smell divine in here.

After I plate the last one, we choose to sit outside in the cool forest air on the small table out there. It was sunny and warm, why not enjoy it?

-

"When will I get to see under that mask?" I ask, mouth half full.

He pauses for a moment, then looks up, "Soon enough."

Could this man be anymore cryptic?

I nod and sigh, slowly finishing my bite. I take a deep breath in, filling my lungs with the crisp, cool air. There's something invigorating about being outside in the open, surrounded by nothing but nature. The scent of pine and cedar trees mingle together, creating a fragrant perfume that fills my senses.

"The lake looks so nice," Nikolai abruptly exclaims.

I haven't really been paying too much attention to the lake, but now that he mentions it, it does look very inviting.

"Yeah, we should go for a swim," I reply.

His head turns to me without warning, "Uh, I don't have any swimmers or anything," he trails off awkwardly.

"Just go in your undergarments. I mean I don't think I have swimmers either, and we are married so it wouldn't be improper. And who cares, we're in the middle of nowhere," I tell him like it's obvious.

His ears go red.

I can't help but giggle a little bit.

-

"Jump!" I yell at him, laughing so much my words are almost incoherent.

We are both in our undergarments, and let me tell you, I had no idea he looked like that. Damn.

"Wait, wait before I do I need to show you something," He blabs on flapping his hands in protest, laughing with me. But he sounds more serious all of a sudden.

"Yeah?" I match his serious tone.

My confusion only lasts for about three seconds, until his hand makes its way to the bottom of his mask.

Wait.

He wouldn't, right?

Not now.
