The TARDIS hummed underneath them. They fell asleep. Everything was as it should be. With John and Rose traveling the galaxy together. The next morning they woke up and eased out of each other's bodies and slid out of bed and took a shower and got dressed. John was dressed in his usual pinstripe suit and socks and converse sneakers and trenchcoat. Rose was dressed in a floor length navy blue turtleneck gown with multiple skirts underneath. The gown had a lace overskirt. She slipped into a pair of navy blue flats. When she turned around, John looked at her and walked over to her, grabbing a second trenchcoat as he walked over. He helped her into the second trenchcoat. He said: "here. It'll keep you warm." Rose smiled up at him. John pulled her into his arms. She snuggled into his arms. Then John let go of her and scooped her up and carried her out of their room and down the stairs into the console room. He set her down on her feet and walked over to the console. John took the TARDIS off of autopilot. Suddenly they both felt a jolt and were thrown to the floor. Rose was the first one to climb to her feet and ran to the console and was flipping switches trying to find out what was going on. She said frustratedly: "Damn it. What the hell is going on here?" Then she ran over to the doors and opened the doors with all her strength. She looked out the doors. She somehow managed to climb out on top of the TARDIS and looked around. Then she climbed into the TARDIS. She closed the doors with all her strength. She leaned against the wall and placed her hand on her stomach. John was climbing to his feet by now. Rose said: "I've been running around while you were on the floor." John said: "you've been on top of things while I was down?" Rose said: "someone's gotta be. Besides, one of us has to find out what the hell is going on here. In fact, I was just outside on top of the TARDIS looking around. I know it was a risky thing to do in my condition. But I think I found something. Or rather, someone. I saw a ship. A starship. I think we're caught in a tractor beam." John said: "we have to break free from it. The TARDIS will shatter if we don't break free from it." Rose said: "quick, hand me your sonic screwdriver." John handed her his sonic screwdriver bewildered. Rose said: "just trust me. I know what I'm doing." John said: "if it breaks us free from the tractor beam, then go for it." Rose ran and opened the doors with all her strength and climbed up on top of the TARDIS and held on and aimed the sonic screwdriver at the tractor beam and fired. The TARDIS shook and John said: "Rose, you did it! We're free from the tractor beam!" Then Rose climbed down into the TARDIS and closed the doors with all her strength and said: "I did it? I actually did it?" John ran over and picked her up and swung her around and said: "you bloody did it. You are so brilliant. Wait, how did you know that my sonic screwdriver would disrupt the tractor beam?" Rose said: "Honey, I worked at Torchwood. Kinda my job." John set her down on her feet. Then Rose handed his sonic screwdriver back to him. John said: "wait here. I have a surprise for you." Then John walked off briefly. Rose sat down and waited. John returned a few minutes later with a short, slender box in hand. He walked over to her and sat down beside her and handed the box to her and said: "open it." Then Rose opened the box and removed the tissue paper and lifted a sonic screwdriver out of the box. She looked at John. John said: "this belongs to you. You used it during a battle between me and the Daleks and saved my life that day. I've kept it all these years because I wasn't sure if you were going to stay with me. But it's time it was returned to its rightful owner." Rose smiled and said: "Honey, I plan to stay with you as long as I live. Which is going to be a long time. Because we're both Time Lords. Now, where to?" John said: "earth. Specifically Victorian London." Rose said thoughtfully: "the time period would be 1893 if my calculations are correct." John looked at her, shocked. He said: "how on earth did you know that?" Rose said: "I read about victorian London while I was at Torchwood. Compliments of my father in the parallel universe. I still have the book. It's in my bag." John jumped up and said: "I'll get it!" He ran out of the room and up the stairs into their room and looked through her bag until he found the book in question. He walked out of their room and jogged down the stairs into the console room and said: "found the book. It didn't take very long to find. Especially since it literally says "Victorian London" on it in gold letters. Bit hard to miss that." Rose stood and walked over to the console and put the proper time period in the computer and flipped several switches and pushed the lever forward. John looked at her in amazement. Rose said: "John, I'll have to change the trenchcoat for a cloak. Women in Victorian London don't wear trenchcoats. Go ahead and read the book. I've already read it cover to cover. I also memorized it." Then John opened the book and started reading. Then Rose walked up the stairs into their room and took off the trenchcoat and flats. She grabbed a navy blue cloak and threw it about her and fastened the clasp and slipped into a pair of navy blue high heels which was typical of that time period. Then Rose put her hair up in a braided bun. Then Rose walked out of their room and walked down the stairs into the console room and stood at the console. John looked up from the book and said: "you changed. Slightly." Then the TARDIS materialized in a secluded alley. John finished the book as they arrived. Rose raised an eyebrow and said: "you read the entire book cover to cover in the short time I was gone?" John said: "yeah. Rose, maybe I'd better stay here with the TARDIS. There's no way I'd blend in. But you look like you're from this time period. You'd blend in more than I would." Rose slipped her sonic screwdriver into a concealed pocket in her gown. She said: "not leaving without my sonic screwdriver. I'm ready now." John opened the doors. Then Rose walked out of the TARDIS. She looked around and put her hood up. She walked out of the alley and joined the crowd. She noticed that everyone steered clear of the other side of the Thames. Rose raised her wrist and said: "John, do you read me?" John said: "I read you loud and clear. What's up?" Rose said: "there's something going on on the other side of the Thames. Meet me there." John said: "yeah, problem. The TARDIS won't move." Rose said: "do you know why?" John said: "no clue. And it's bugging me. However, there is someone else that I can send to help you. Her name is Clara Oswald. She happens to be here in Victorian London. I'll see if I can lock onto her location and send a message to her." Rose said: "well, try to hurry. People are jittery." Then Rose lowered her wrist. Then John quickly located Clara and sent her a message. Clara got the message and wove through the crowd to Rose. Clara said: "you're Rose, right?" Rose said: "yes, I am. You must be Clara Oswald." Clara said: "yeah. John told me you're going over to the other side of the Thames. I've been investigating over there myself. I'm a Time Lord. So anything over there doesn't affect me." Rose said: "I'm a Time Lord too. So I'm immune to anything over there." Clara said: "follow me. We can't go by boat. People refuse to go there. So, we'll teleport over there." Then Clara took Rose's hand and teleported over to the other side. They reached the other side. Rose squeaked. Clara said: "sorry. Probably should have warned you about the side effects of teleporting." Rose said: "hold that thought." She ran around the side of a building and retched. Clara winced. John said concernedly: "Clara, what's happening?" Clara said: "just the side effects of teleporting. Rose will be okay in a bit." John sighed and shrugged out of his trenchcoat and said: "I'm coming over there. I can't come in the TARDIS." Clara said: "will do." Then John ran out of the TARDIS after grabbing his sonic screwdriver from his trenchcoat and locked the doors. He stuck his sonic screwdriver in his jacket. Then John teleported over to the other side where Rose and Clara were. Clara looked over and saw John and said: "you got here fast." John said: "I could hear Rose in the background." After a while Rose returned to the duo. John grabbed a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped around her mouth. Rose said: "John? What are you doing here? I thought you were back with the TARDIS." John said: "I was. Then I heard you in the background and was worried. So I called Clara and asked her what was going on. She told me it was the side effects of teleporting. Are you okay now?" Rose nodded. John wrapped his arms around her for a while, sensing that she needed a hug. Rose said: "John, something really bad is going on here. I can feel it." Then John held her for a while. After a while they pulled away. John slipped his hand into hers and intertwined their hands. Rose looked up at him, her hood falling down. Clara said: "come on. Let's go." Rose looked at him and said: "you shed your trenchcoat." John said: "yeah. I figured it would probably slow me down. So I took it off. I love you." Rose was about to answer when they all heard a piercing scream. Rose pulled away and walked forward. John looked at her and said concernedly: "Rose?" Rose said urgently: "shhh! I'm trying to figure out where that scream came from." Then they all heard a piercing scream again. Rose hitched up her skirts and ran towards the scream. Clara and John were hot on her heels. Clara hitched up her skirts as well. The trio stopped in front of an abandoned house. Rose walked up the stairs and opened the door. Rose looked at Clara and said: "stay here. If we all go up there, we could possibly scare whoever's here. John and I will go ahead." Clara nodded and said: "I'll check out the other houses here." Then Clara left the house. Rose walked up the stairs. John followed her. They heard crying coming from behind one of the doors. They reached the second floor and looked around. Rose walked over to one of the doors and listened then looked at him and said: "John. Come here." John walked over. Then Rose opened the door and walked in the room. John walked in the room behind her. The room was bare except for a mat in the middle of the room close to the window. A little girl sat on the mat. Rose went to walk over but John said: "Rose, be careful." Rose dropped her skirts and walked over to the little girl and eased herself down onto the mat and said gently: "hello there. My name is Rose Smith. What's your name?" The little girl said quietly: "Amelia Pond. But I like to be called Amy. I'm scared. The darkness is coming. You'd better leave before the darkness gets you too." John walked over and sat down and said gently: "what are you talking about? What darkness?" Rose looked up and said: "John, I think I know what she's talking about. I'm pretty sure that doll wasn't in the window a few seconds ago. I would have noticed if it had. Let me handle this." John nodded. Rose grabbed her sonic screwdriver and stood and said firmly: "what do you want?" The doll said: "we want the little girl." Rose raised her sonic screwdriver and said firmly: "Over. My. Dead. Body." Then Rose blasted the doll. It shattered. Rose said: "how is she?" John said quietly: "she's becoming like one of those dolls." Rose spun around and said: "Get her to the TARDIS! Don't worry about me! I can handle myself! Take Clara with you! Now go!" John knew better than to argue with her when she used her authoritive tone of voice. John scooped the girl up and ran out of the room and down the stairs and out of the house and met up with Clara who had somehow managed to bring the TARDIS over. The doors opened and Clara said: "it took a bit of persuasion on my part. But she finally decided to cooperate with me." John ran into the TARDIS and ran to the medbay and set her on one of the beds and let the TARDIS do its job. Then John walked into the console room and sat down. A few minutes later, Rose fairly sprinted into the TARDIS and closed the doors behind her and plopped down on the couch. Then Clara left. John looked at Rose and said: "Rose, when Amy gets better, how would you feel about adopting her?" Rose said: "I like that idea. Sorry, right now I'm just tired." Then John stood and scooped her up and carried her up the stairs into their room and helped her undress and get into pajamas. Then Rose climbed into bed and fell asleep immediately. Then John pulled the covers up around her. Rose snuggled under the covers. Then John left. He walked down to the medbay and walked into the medbay. Amy was sitting up in bed. John walked over to her and said: "how are you feeling?" Amy said: "I feel fine."
