Gwen's Betrayal - Merthur

The Betrayal

"Sire, Morgana is preparing an army." Merlin said with obvious fear in his voice. "What?! We need to get ready. Where's Guinevere?" Arthur asked concerned.  "Um, about that. She kind of left for Morgana. Look." Merlin responded sounding ashamed.  Arthur looked at the note and it read

        "Arthur Pendragon,
You should know I've hated you for a long time.  I love Morgana and I'm working with her.  We're upbringing a war to rule the kingdom.
                           -sincerely, Morgana and Gwen"

Arthur was trying to hold back tears but barely did.  After the war was over, he seen Gwen and instantly found his heart sinking. He went into a state of depression a little bit later and the kingdom is left in the hands of who Arthur trusts most, Merlin.  "Merlin, with Arthur going through what he's going through, you're going to have to rule the kingdom." Lancelot said to Merlin.  "Why me though? Are you sure I can actually handle it?" Merlin asked concerned for the kingdom. "Yes, Arthur trusts you most and you were by his side for years, you how he rules." Lancelot said trying to assure Merlin.  "Okay, I'll just do what Arthur did then." Merlin said trying to sound confident but actually confused.  After Merlin makes a couple decisions, he goes to check on Arthur and get him food.

*In Arthur's Chambers*

"Hey Arthur, you okay?" Merlin said a little cautiously.  "Merlin?" Arthur said confused to why Merlin would be in there.  "Hi Arthur, I'm here with your food.  Are you okay?" Merlin asked Arthur. "I'm alive if that answers." Arthur said back.  "I love you, Merlin." Arthur managed to slip out accidentally and instantly trying to hide in his pillows. "There, there, Arthur. I love you too.  You need to eat." Merlin said hoping Arthur would listen.  Arthur sat up and ate his food.  After he ate, Arthur just went to sleep and Merlin kissed his forehead before leaving to tell the knights Arthur might be getting better.

*One month later*

Merlin was planning a surprise date in the woods by the river with a picnic now that Arthur was mostly recovered. He packed the picnic and went to tell the knights since he told them what happened. "He guys, I have a surprise date for Arthur today. Just wanted to tell you so you didn't think he was kidnapped or something like that.  "Okay, enjoy your date." Lancelot said smirking. Merlin just rolled his eyes and went to get Arthur.  "Wake up, Arthur. We have a busy date." Merlin said excitedly.  "Why? Where?" Arthur said still not a morning person.  "It's a surprise." Merlin said excitedly. He quickly helped Arthur dress, after Merlin and a tired Arthur rode into the woods. 

*At the Date*

"Merlin? Are we here for a reason?" Arthur asked confused. "Of course, we have the basket for a reason. Surprise! I set up a date to cheer you up." Merlin said excitedly. "Thank you Merlin, you're the sweetest person ever. I love you, my amazing boyfriend." Arthur said actually excitedly before kissing Merlin. "Hey Arthur?" Merlin asked. "Yes love." Arthur asked curiously. "Will you marry me?" Merlin asked. "Yes! Of course I will!" Arthur almost shouted while tearing up.  Merlin and Arthur just spent the rest of the day cuddling and talking.
