Chapter 1- How to run from the mess you've made

Dorian just had left in the pouring rain and I let him go. I was looking after him underneath a canopy and the the bell rang.

I turned around in panick and I saw Ezra walking towards me.

"Where is Dorian ?" he asked yelling at me.

"I... I don't know Ezra. Let us go back inside the cabin. I want to go to bed." I tried to distract him.

"What were you doing outside ?" He looked at me up and down. I was only wearing my night gown and a pair of boots and his gaze darkened.

I have never seen him beeing this mad. Well this mad at me. He had pretty bad outburst since the explosion.

I was scared. But not so scared that I would betray and put her in danger.

"Just taking a walk." I said shoulders shrugging.

"Oh baby I know how you hate the mud. Why don't you tell why you were here outside right in the moment Dorian disappeared." Ezra said with a cold voice.

What should I tell him ? Yes I let him go. The traitor who tried to raise a crowd to kill him ? That not only he lead the crowd but another person, everything good I have left in this world, too ? Amelia was a fool. But she is the reason why I finaly saw Ezra as he is. As the monster who takes advantage of everyone. Maybe I was the fool because I once loved him.

"Who is the other person ? Who worked with Dorian to overthrow me ?" Ezra asked furiously gripping on my arm.

"I don't know. Let me go you are hurting me." I did know who the other person was. Amelia.

"You are such a bad liar Darcy. You are going to tell me know who this traitor is." He gripped me even harder and I flinced. "You see what you are making me do to you ? I love you but you can't expect me to let you get away with this." He said.

I wasn't that bad of a liar. I fell out of love with him a long time ago. But he never noticed it. He only saw me for this naive and influensable lovesick girl I was in Highschool. After the bomb exploded and had killed all the adults, he was the only one I new from back when the world was normal. So I held tight onto him and never left his side.

"Let me go." I answered.

Amelia came running towards us and stopped behind Ezra. As third of Ezra we spend a lot of time together. She was always keeping me comagny when Ezra was on his secret missions. She showed me the better version of myself. She was making me smile when Ezra couldn't anymore.

"Oh this Amelia is a pretty bad influence, isn't she ? If you don't tell me who the other person is then you will never be allowed to see her again. How about that ?"

I am never going to tell him.

"Answer me !" Ezra screamed and threw me in the mud.

"Ezra, Dorian is nowhere to be found." said Amelia and Ezra turned around. She was apparently, to Dorians's luck, leading the searching party.

She looked down at me still laying in the mud with a straight face. There was no trace of the usual sparkle in her eyes.

Please forgive me I tried to say with my eyes. But she simply looked away. I was definitely the fool. How could I expect to get away with this ? But I prefer her hating me than her beeing dead. I had to tell Ezra and Dorian had to leave before there were more people hurt. Before Amelia got hurt.

Ezra screamed with rage. And in his rage he slaped me in the face.

"Stop Ezra." Amelia said holding his wrist as he was about to hit me a second time. « She has nothing to do with Dorian leaving. »

"Then who has ?" He said furious.

Amelia and I looked into eachothers eyes. We knew. But I will never tell on her and she understood it.

"Who is the other person. Dorian always spoke of « we » when I interrogated him. He may have the muscels but the eloquence to motivate people, god no." Ezra said looking at Amelia.

Wash e already suspecting something ? She looked down. And at that moment he put two and two together.

"You." Ezra filled with rage. He jerked his long knife and so did Amelia. And they began to fight.

"Darcy run." Amelia grunted while dodging Ezra's sword. "Go and get help."

And so I did.
