I bit my lip, surveying our surroundings. Keefe does not like talking about this. Every Time someone brings it up, he finds a way to be up and out of the room within seconds. "I don't think he would want me to tell you."
Ro rolled her eyes. "Of course he wouldn't Blondie. Why do you think I'm here?"
A frown spreads across my face. "Why would you admit that? Aren't you trying to get me to tell you?" I questioned.
She scoffed. "Okay. Think about it this way. You could tell me now, and spare your boy the embarrassment of telling me- and of the explosive farts these amoebas could give him-" She said, dangling a small vial in front of my nose. "Or I could go work my magic and we could see how it goes."
I sighed, still anxiously glancing around. "Alright fine. Find a way to ditch Keefe and meet me at Havenfield after school." I told her, grabbing my bag. "Actually, speaking of which, how did you manage to come here alone?"
She shrugged. "Can't tell you."
I turn to look at her sceptically.
"If you must know, I'm the one who's job is to be around him- not the other way around. He wanted to be alone this morning more than usual anyways- I just let him. Figured this would be worse for him anyways." She grinned, evilly.
I snorted. "Whatever. C'mon." I grabbed her hand, dragging her to the leapmaster. "Foxfire!" I called to the dangling crystals, hovering high above my head.
"Hunkyhair?" Ro asked, moving to stand beside him.
He turned, appearing to have just finished a conversation with- wow speak of the devil. The unmistakable embroidered wings and halo of Y/n's family crest waving in the wind, then turning the corner and vanishing.
"Oh hey." He nodded, as a sort of greeting.
I felt my lips turn down with sympathy. "Did you sleep alright?" I asked, gesturing to the dark circles littering his normally immaculate features.
He smirked. "Why Foster, were you up all night thinking about me?"
I snort. "I was trying to be nice. Whatever, nevermind." I said, turning away.
Keefe grabbed my arm. "I was just messing with you Foster. I slept fine, thanks for asking."

I scoffed, staring at Keefe holding Sophie close to his chest by her forearm. I tried to ignore it, but a small part inside of me couldn't help thinking, that could've been- used to be me. Not that I wanted it anymore. Or at least that's what I told myself. If I admitted the truth, I might find myself back by Keefe's side, telling him I forgave him. After all, he did apologise. Just now.
"Hey! L/n!"
I rolled my eyes, continuing forwards. "What do you want, Keefe."
I could practically hear the smirk in his voice as he responded. "So we're back on nickname terms?"
I ignored him, annoyed. Of course he didn't want anything. He just wanted to make jokes and poke fun like always.
"Alright alright, it wasn't funny. I get it. Can we at least talk?" He said, his voice sounding farther and farther- a signal that he had stopped walking.
"I don't know what there is to talk about."
"Yes you do." He called after me. "I'm sorry, okay? I know I messed up. Big time. I don't know what I did-"
My rage blinded me at those words. "You don't know what you did?" I hissed, turning back around and walking up to him, not stopping until we were inches apart. I got on my tiptoes, getting into his face as I told him, "You left me Keefe! You found some new girl, who you found more interesting and you left without a second thought."
He looked at his feet, shamefully. "You're right. And I'm sorry Y/n, I really am."
I practically snorted. "Yea. You should be."
"I deserved that. Will you at least let me make it up to you somehow?" He asked pensively.
A million half thought through responses flared through my brain- one in particular sticking out more than the rest. One, short, simple word. One word that could've solved everything.
"Ye-" I began. But just as I nearly said it, I saw the beginnings of light leaping particles forming in the otherwise empty hallway- and then the iconic brown eyes of a certain elf forming. Wow. I should've known. He's with her. I took a step back in hurt and shock, meeting his eyes. Then turned tail, wiping at the tears that were forming at my eyes and ran.

Gesturing to the open spot beside me, I groaned, dragging a hand down my face and the thought of the bit of the interaction I had seen between Y/n and Keefe. Ro happily filled the empty seat, devouring the butter blasts that Edaline had so kindly sent up.
"Edaline says she used a new flavouring agent today. Can you tell what it is?" I asked Ro, grabbing one off the platter before she finished them all.
"Don't try to change the subject, Blondie. Save that smart little brain of yours for something more important than covering for our little boy." She grunted with a mouth full of pastry- crumbs scattering everywhere. "And it's some type of berry."
I laughed exasperatedly. "Alright, you caught me." I tugged on my eyelashes, debating about where to start- and then just devouring my butter blast instead to stall.
I swallowed, then hesitated. "Y/n and Keefe were..." I hesitate. "They were best friends- or at least so I'm told. I was also told however..." Wow this is a hard topic to cover. "I was also told that... many suspected they... were something... more."
