'Whilst' will be my 13th Reason

This word makes me visibly cringe: Whilst.

Why would you use it? You can just use 'while' in place of it. Unless you're writing a story where 'whilst' fits in that period or scene (like fantasy or drama), you don't need it.

I personally think it's overused and used in the wrong places. (I literally found it in a cuddling one shot and was so confused. Like why is this here?)

I also kinda think 'when' fits into the 'while' and 'whilst' family. Because think about it- here's an example of the same sentence with each word:

He always daydreamed whilst listening to his favorite song.

He always daydreamed while listening to his favorite song.

He always daydreamed when listening to his favorite song.

It's always good to interchange words and use different ones so you don't clog up your writing. Using a variety of words will make your writing smoother, easier to read, and more appealing to the audience. Even if you prefer one word over the other, use the others too. (We don't want to make them feel lonely.) Whether you prefer one over another or like one because of styling or simply personal preference, that's fine. (We're all guilty.) But be sure to expand your vocabulary so you'll have more interchangeable words in your writer's arsenal.

Don't worry if you accidentally use the same word twice, things happen! Just be sure to change it up a bit so you don't keep repeating yourself.

That's another thing I see with these words- they're constantly repeated. So you can see it's very important to use different words.
